Adducts of imidazolidine compounds, such as the reaction product of ethylene diamine with cyclohexanone, are provided with organic polyepoxides, especially with low molecular weight polyepoxides where the imidazolidine acts as a chain extender, and the adduct is reacted with an acid to protonate at least 50% of the amine groups in the adduct. These protonated adducts can be dispersed in water to form dispersion which cure with various curing agents. Aqueous electrocoating baths can be provided which electrodeposit at the cathode.

Photopolymerizable epoxide compositions are provided which contain photoinitiators decomposable upon exposure to electromagnetic radiation to produce a Lewis acid and polymerizable epoxide compounds including an epoxide ether compound having the following general structural formula: ##STR1## wherein n equals 1-3 and wherein R is an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic group having 5-12 carbon atoms. Other epoxide compounds may be used in combination therewith to provide compositions which cure rapidly to a tack-free condition at ambient temperatures. Specific epoxide ethers disclosed are those in which n=1 and R is a group selected from the class of 2,2-dimethylpropane, 2-ethyl-1,3-hexane, 1,4-dimethylcyclohexane and 1,10-decane.

A hot melt ink comprising, ionomers and an image-forming agent, wherein the melting point of the ionomers is from about 50.degree. C. to about 130.degree. C., said ink exhibiting, in the molten stage, a viscosity from about 5 to about 60 centipoises (cps) at about 90.degree. to 140.degree. C. A method for ink jet printing comprising application of said ink in the molten state is also disclosed. A hot melt ink jet composition comprising a solid carrier component, an image-forming composition, and from about 5 to about 75 percent, by weight of an emulsifier is also disclosed, and the use thereof for ink jet printing.

A process of producing a room temperature-stable solvent solution from a high molecular weight crystalline ethylene glycol terephthalate solid polyester is disclosed in which the polyester is incorporated into a hot melt of an hydroxy-functional linear polyester having an hydroxy number of at least about 20, an acid number of less than about 30 and a molecular weight in the range of 1,000 to 10,000. This forms a molten mixture containing from about 20% to about 55% of terephthalate polyester which is maintained as a hot melt until a sample of the melt forms a clear to slightly cloudy solution in a 50% mixture thereof with 2-ethoxy diethanol glycol acetate. The reacted hot melt is then mixed with an organic solvent to form a solution which is useful in thermosetting solvent solution coating compositions.Aqueous coating compositions may be made using water having dispersed therein a salt of an epoxy phosphate with a volatile base and having stably dispersed therein the aforesaid reacted hot melt after the same is mixed with a water-miscible organic solvent to form a solution which is dispersed in the aqueous medium and cured with a curing agent reactive with hydroxyl functionality.

These are preferably provided by reacting an organic diisocyanate with the single secondary amine group of a ketimine-blocked diprimary amine carrying a single secondary amino hydrogen atom and then reacting a monohydric acrylate with the other isocyanate group. These monomers are polymerizable to provide copolymers with other monoethylenically unsaturated monomers, and especially acrylate-functional monomers, in which the amine groups remain blocked. These amine groups become unblocked when the copolymers are dispersed in water to form various types of aqueous coating compositions.

There is disclosed a thermosetting solvent solution coating composition comprising volatile organic solvent having dissolved therein at least about 45% of a fluorocarbon polymer together with at least about 10% of a hydroxy-functional organic soluble copolymer of from 3% to 8% of 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate, balance consisting essentially of nonreactive monoethylenically unsaturated monomers, and an aminoplast curing agent in an amount to cure the hydroxy-functional copolymer, These coatings exhibit improved water spot resistance and minimum color change and gloss reduction on exterior exposure.
