摘要： An apparatus and method for sending encrypted data to a conditional access module (CAM) over a common interface (CI). A plurality of data packets are formed, and one data packet of the plurality of data packets includes a header and a payload for storing the encrypted data. The data packets are sent to the CAM over a transport stream (TS) interface of the CI. Encrypted data in different file formats can be sent over the TS interface. An initialization message including information about a selected format can be sent to the CAM over a control interface of the CI, and the CAM can send data request messages over the control interface to request specific data.

摘要： A digital broadcast media recording apparatus has means for determining if a program which is scheduled to be broadcast has already been recorded, and, if it has been, for deciding if the program which is scheduled to be broadcast should be recorded based on a comparison of the attributes of the digital signal representing the scheduled program and corresponding attributes of the digital signal representing the recorded program. If it is determined that the scheduled program should be recorded, a control means gives an instruction which causes a recording unit to record the broadcast digital system representing the scheduled program when it is broadcast. Optionally, the digital signal representing the recorded program can be deleted once the digital signal representing the scheduled program is recorded. An identifier is used to determine whether the scheduled program is the same as a recorded program. This means that if the attributes of the digital signal representing the scheduled program are considered to be more desirable than the attributes of the digital signal representing the recorded program, the scheduled program can be stored on a storage media instead of, or as well as, the recorded version of the program.

The apparatus is configured to receive key information and additional information through the broadcast stream, select one of a plurality of predetermined functions based on the additional information, and perform the selected function in response to a control signal identified by the key information. The additional information may include link information such as a URL or telephone number, and the function may be selected based on a type of the link information. In some embodiments, the link information may be extracted from audio-visual data of a selected programme, using optical character recognition. The apparatus may connect to a secondary device to transmit information to the secondary device, and may receive information relating to the selected programme from the secondary device.

The apparatus also comprises a processing module which searches information relating to programmes available from a broadcast stream and another source, such as the Internet or a local storage unit, to find programmes corresponding to the selected programme. The selected programme is associated with an identifier, and corresponding programmes are those which are associated with the same identifier as the selected programme. One of the corresponding programmes may then be chosen as an alternative to the selected programme.

摘要： A method of enabling transmission of a data service from a content server to a terminal using a data channel in a system in which at least part of the data service is transmitted to the terminal using a broadcast channel, the method including: receiving, using the broadcast channel, first data comprising part of the data service; processing the first data using a signature-generating algorithm to derive first signature data; transmitting the first signature data using the data channel to the content server; validating the first signature data by comparing said first signature data with a signature derived by processing data comprising part of the data service using a corresponding signature-generating algorithm; and enabling the terminal to access the data service using the data channel dependent on validation of the first signature data.
