A strain relief includes a main body having a bore therein for passage of a cable, wire, conduit, hose, or similar member therethrough. The main body includes a first section having male threads, and a second section including a plurality of cantilevered deflectable prongs extending therefrom. A plurality of slots are located between the prongs, and the prongs decrease in width extending toward distal ends of the prongs. A flexible elastomeric grommet is located within the bore and extends substantially along an entire length of the main body. The grommet includes a cylindrical sidewall and a plurality of spaced-apart annular ribs extending radially inwardly from the sidewall. A plurality of annular grooves are located between the annular ribs. The annular ribs have inside diameters which progressively increase along a length of the grommet in order to accommodate cables of various diameters therethrough. A silicone gel may be located in the annular grooves to improve the seal between the grommet and the cable. A cap is provided which includes female threads which are engagable with the male threads of the main body for securing the cap to the main body. The cap includes a conically or arcuately tapered wall engagable with distal ends of the prongs for compressing the prongs inwardly when the cap is threaded onto the main body, thereby compressing the grommet inwardly around the cable.

The combination of a fiber optic tray and a splice holder with a self-mounting feature for fiber optic cables with the fiber optic tray having a latch therein in the form of an undercut recess. The splice holder has a latch engaging element in the form of tabs extending therefrom. The latch and latch engaging element adapted to cooperate with each other in order to permit the splice holder to be mounted in the fiber optic tray and to be removed therefrom.

An adapter for securing a cable to a housing has a flange that is attachable to the housing and a plurality of concentric cable ports connected to the flange. Each cable port has a side wall. The side wall of each cable port overlaps a side wall of an adjacent one of the plurality of cable ports. Each cable port has a respective diameter and a respective height with respect to the flange, and the heights of the cable ports increase monotonically from the cable port having the largest diameter to the cable port having the smallest diameter. Each cable port other than the cable port having the smallest diameter has a flat surface at a distal end opposite the flange. Each pair of successive cable ports differ from each other in height by a constant amount that is at least a thickness of a blade used to cut unused ones of the plurality of cable ports from the adapter. Each cable port may have a ledge proximate to the distal end. The ledge of an inner one of an adjacent pair of cable ports within the plurality of cable ports is located at the same height as the flat surface at the distal end of the outer one of the pair of cable ports. The adapter may be formed from a single piece of material, adjacent cable ports connected to each other.

A splice holder for securing and retaining fiber optic splices. The splice holder improves access to individual splices and minimizes interference to adjacent splices during removal. The splice holder comprises a hollow base having a first flat portion and a second enclosing portion defining a hollow longitudinal space therebetween. A plurality of parallel, spaced apart longitudinal members extend from the second portion away from the hollow space. Adjacent pairs of members define a channel for retaining a splice. Within the hollow space is a transversely extending wall for structural support of the second portion, which divides the space into two cavities. The cavities provide improved access to the underside of a splice.

A layer module arrangement for splice trays. Each layer module comprises a base to support the splices and two side members extending in the same general direction from the base. The invention provides for multiple embodiments each having add-on capabilities so as to provide lodging for a high density of splice connections if desired.

A protector panel receives plug-in protector modules. The panel has a plurality of pin receiving holes. The panel has a plurality of members depending from its bottom. Each of the at pin receiving holes has a respective pair of the depending members adjacent to and on opposite sides of that hole. Each member has a boss at an end of the member. A printed wiring board is attached to the panel, beneath the depending members. The printed wiring board has wirings on its surface. The printed wiring board has a plurality of holes, each aligned with a respective pin receiving hole of the panel. The printed wiring board has a resilient elongated member adjacent to each hole of the printed wiring board. The elongated members, which ensure electrical contact between the pins and wiring on the printed wiring board, have a conductive material on them. The conductive material forms an electrical connection between the wirings and pins of the plug-in protection devices, while the pins are at least partially inserted into the holes of the panel.

A high-density connector establishes electrical connections between insulated wires and other wires. The connector has terminals made of electrically conductive materials, for a plurality of insulated wires and a corresponding connector cap which has a round shape. The connector also has a base on which the terminals and cap are positioned. Each insulated wire has an insulation jacket. The connector includes front facing holes through which the insulated wires can be inserted. The terminals of the connector include a plurality of keyholes, each keyhole having a tail and a round portion that serves as the clearance hole for an insulated wire as it passes therethrough along with its insulation jacket. As the connector cap is rotated, it pushes the insulated wire placed in the round portion of the keyhole into the tail of the keyhole, which cuts into and removes the insulation jacket of the wire, thereby effecting an electrical connection between the electrical conductors of the wire and the terminals ofthe connector. The keyholes are adapted with particular tail widths to accommodate insulated wires of various gauge sizes. The connector can also effect electrical connection for a plurality of insulated wire.

A cable retaining mechanism has a hollow body containing a plurality of projections extending radially into the hollow cavity. The projections are spaced equidistantly from each other and have a resiliency such that each projection exerts equal retaining pressure on the cable passing through the hollow body. The equal pressure retains the cable in a central location within the hollow body. This allows for symmetrical application of a shrinkable protective layer to secure the cable and mechanism.

A cable sealing arrangement is provided for limiting the ingress of fluid into a location about a cable, such as a telephone wire enclosure, which generally includes a fitting, two sealing members, and two nuts. The sealing arrangement provides multiple redundant seals defined by the interfaces of tapered surfaces on the sealing members and the fitting, as well as, the interfaces of tapered surfaces on the sealing members and the nuts. By tightening the nuts onto the fitting, the nuts cause compression of the sealing members resulting in tight engagement of a cable.

A network interface device includes a plug section pivotally attached to a jack section. The plug section includes a pair of terminals which form a portion of an insulation displacement connector. The upper end of each terminal has a pair of tines to which a wire may be connected. The terminals are installed into the plug section in the same direction as the direction of the downward forces applied to the tines of the terminals when connecting a wire thereto. The downward forces are borne by a stop shoulder on each terminal which engages an abutment on the plug section. This prevents the terminals from being inadvertently dislodged from the surrounding plug section. Thus, the terminals will remain properly positioned within the plug section when wires are forced onto the terminals.
