On the mounting sections of the guide elements, a guide edge covering, respectively, the opposite longitudinal edges of an elongated hole is provided such that, during thermal expansion, the fender can elongate unhindered. For this purpose, the longitudinal extent of the mounting section of the guide elements is shorter than the corresponding longitudinal extent of the elongated hole.

The sprue runner is branched so that the material fed from the mixing chamber is divided into at least two equal parts, the branches of the sprue runner leading to a common section in which the divided parts of the material are recombined prior to feeding to the mould. A gating arrangement for use in moulding plastics, particular foam plastics, formed from a plurality of fluid constituents comprises a plurality of nozzles for delivering the constituents under pressure into a mixing chamber. A nozzle needle is associated with each nozzle and is movable between positions which close and open the nozzles. The nozzle needles are moved from the closing position into the opening position by the pressure of the fluid constituents. A hydraulic piston is associated with each nozzle needle for retaining each nozzle needle in a definite position.

A method and apparatus for injection molding of thermoplastic material to form a hollow article in a closed mold in which a molten thermoplastic material is introduced from an injection nozzle into a mold cavity through an opening in the mold, and a pressurized gas is introduced together with the molten thermoplastic material through said opening so that the gas forms a hollow cavity under pressure within the thermoplastic material filling the mold. After the thermoplastic material is solidified to form a hollow article within the closed mold, the gas pressure in the hollow cavity of the article is reduced and the mold is opened. The pressurized gas is introduced into the mold from a gas source and the gas pressure is subsequently reduced by recycling at least a portion of the gas in the hollow cavity to the gas source, thereby avoiding loss of the gas to the surrounding atmosphere.

The invention relates to a feedhead device for the moulding of plastics materials, especially foamable plastics, to be formed from a plurality of liquid constituents, the device having a mixing chamber charged with the pressurized constituents and a sprue runner adjoining the mixing chamber and leading to a mould cavity. The sprue runner flares toward the mould cavity. To create a uniform distribution of velocity over the cross-section of the sprue runner despite the widening thereof and to prevent the occurrence of evaporation prior to the plastics constituents inter-reacting, the invention proposes the forming of at least one restriction in the sprue runner.
