    Abstract: An electrical contact includes at least one grooved channel defined in an interior surface of the electrical contact along at least a portion the electrical contact disposed along a longitudinal axis. The portion is configured to axially receive a lead of a wire cable for attachment thereto and thereby allow the attached lead to at least engagingly make contact against a recessed surface of the grooved channel. The grooved channel has a depth and includes at a least one sidewall extending along the depth. The sidewall includes at least one section that angularly extends from the interior surface to a point recessed from the interior surface disposed on the sidewall along the depth.

    Abstract: A miniaturized female electrical terminal (100) having single piece construction which provides positive locking in a sealed system type connector and ability to visually inspect for manufacturing defects, even wherein the outer barrel diameter is less than 1.80 millimeters. The female electrical terminal includes a terminal portion (102), a cable connection portion (104) and an intermediate neck (106) located therebetween. The terminal portion includes an inner barrel (108) which is concentrically located within an outer barrel (110) and connected thereto by a strap (116). A forward end portion of the inner barrel is composed of a first terminal arm (112), a second terminal arm (114) and a portion of the strap, which are annularly arranged to provide a three-point female terminal contact (118). The cable connection portion includes a pair of wire crimp wings (120), a pair of insulation jacket crimp wings (122) at an enlarged diameter area (124), and a neck transition area (126). The intermediate neck is integral with and located between the inner barrel and the neck transition area.

    Abstract: An electrical contact includes a knurl pattern disposed along at least a portion of an interior surface of the electrical contact. The portion receives a lead of a wire cable along a longitudinal axis and is attached thereto to form a crimp connection. The knurl pattern includes a plurality of recessed elements and each recessed element has a rhombus shape that includes inner corners. An orientation of a first pair of opposing, generally axial inner corners define an axial minor distance therebetween and an orientation of a second pair of opposing, inner corners define a major distance therebetween. The axial minor distance is less than the major distance. The recessed elements of the knurl pattern are especially suitable for engagement with an aluminum wire cable to form the crimp connection. A wire assembly that includes the crimp connection is associated with a cable harness disposed in a motorized vehicle.

    Abstract: An electrical connection is achieved via crimping a conventional terminal about a solid conductor. The terminal has first and second wings projecting laterally outward and in opposite directions from a base portion. An inner surface of the base portion is in electrical contact with the conductor side opposite the groove, and the outreaching wings are curled about the conductor and extend into the groove. An outer surface, opposite the inner surface, of the first and second wings engage each other within the groove to prevent spring-back of the wings out of the groove thereby assuring structural mechanical integrity of the electrical connection.

    Abstract: An electrical female terminal of two piece construction comprising a base terminal and a spring member. The base terminal is stamped and formed from a blank strip of relatively soft copper alloy and includes a round, smooth, protrusion-free contact end in the form of a rolled socket that is attached to conventional crimp wings by an intermediate cylindrical neck of a rolled cylindrical form. The rolled socket has an annular lip at its front end defining an entrance for plugging a terminal pin into the socket and a pair of contacts near the front end that are formed from the material of the socket. The spring member is stamped and bent from a sheet of spring material into a generally T-shaped configuration comprising a spring finger that is attached to the middle of a c-shaped support at one end. The spring member is located entirely inside the rolled socket by the deformed portions of the rolled socket in cooperation with the c-shaped collar so that the spring finger biases a terminal pin plugged into the rolled socket into engagement with the contact portions.
