    摘要: The compressor delivers hot compressed refrigerant to the condenser. Flow from the condenser to the evaporator is regulated by a thermostatic expansion valve having its sensing points (pressure and temperature) located in the compresser suction line downstream of an evaporator outlet control valve which is the new part in this application. This control valve has a piston type valve which is operated by a pilot valve actuated by the bellows in the suction line. The bellows is part of a charged system incorporating the capillary tube and the feeler bulb positioned in the evaporator fins. The charging fluid is selected to have a different thermal coefficient of expansion than the bulb so that the pilot valve will close at a selected temperature indicative of incipient icing conditions in the evaporator as may be found in air conditioning systems in which the compressor capacity can exceed the evaporator capacity (typical in automotive air conditioning). When the pilot valve closes pressure on the piston valve balances and the spring closes, the piston valve leaving a bleed port open to insure proper lubrication and cooling of the compressor.

    摘要: Oil flows into the control valve body past the float controlled inlet valve to maintain a constant level in the body. The thin metering disc is rotatable to multiple positions in which a metering orifice underlies the float chamber outlet to accurately meter the flow. The disc is biased against the outlet by a spring which gives a constant spring force on the disc. The disc is turned by means of the manual knob operating a shaft at the lower end of which is a detent star wheel keyed to the shaft and engaged by springs which engage the valleys in the wheel to properly position the metering disc with a selected orifice in registry with the outlet. The detent arrangement does not impose any vertical loading on the shaft and cannot affect the spring force acting on the disc. The opposed springs acting on the star wheel balance each other so far as any load on the shaft is concerned. When the knob is turned to ''''off,'''' the spring arm acts on the link to lift the float and force the inlet valve closed. If the oil level rises too high (due to leakage at the inlet valve), the inverted L-shaped safety float flips clockwise to wedge in the valve closed position until manually reset.

    摘要: The rigid, plastic insert molded into the diaphragm has a raised seat against which the soft tip, solenoid plunger seats with no need for critical registry, thus allowing greater clearance between the plunger and guide. The insert includes a depending boss which cooperates with the outlet to throttle flow during closure to reduce water hammer. The necessary bleed hole is in the insert for greater precision and uniformity of operation. The diaphragm material is molded to include a spacer preventing seating the bleed hole against the cup-like portion of the guide with consequent inability to close.

    摘要: The outer ratchet wheel is a part of the timing cam drum of a step-by-step type of interval timer. The outer ratchet is advanced by means of a pawl which is reciprocated as the slow rise fast drop cam rotates to retract the pawl one tooth and advance the pawl with a snap action until the pawl abuts a stop member, at which time the retaining pawl engages the same tooth to hold the cam in place. At certain intervals or positions on the outer ratchet the teeth are missing thereby allowing the drive pawl (and then the retaining pawl) to ''''reach inside'''' and engage a time delay ratchet which is then advanced inside the outer ratchet a number of steps until the inner ratchet engages the inside of the outer ratchet and starts driving the outer ratchet until the drive pawl and retaining pawl are back onto the outside ratchet, at which time the inside ratchet is released and returned to its original point by the spring bias. This allows what would normally be a short interval on the outer ratchet to be ''''stretched'''' to provide a long interval without consuming too many steps of the timing cam.

WHEN THE PRESSURE ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE BELLOWS (WHICH IS EVAPORATOR PRESSURE IN A REFRIGERATION SYSTEM) EXCEEDS A PREDETERMINED AMOUNT, THE BELLOWS TENDS TO COLLAPSE AND THE HEAD OF THE BELLOWS PULLS AWAY FROM THE ACTUATING PIN AND ALLOWS THE SPRING ACTING ON THE PILOT VALVE TO OPEN THE PILOT VALVE WHEREUPON THE PRESSURE TO THE RIGHT OF THE HEAD OF THE PISTON IS REDUCED, ALLOWING THE PISTON TO MOVE TO THE RIGHT AGAINST THE RETURN SPRING FORCE AND, THUS, OPEN THE OUTLET BY REGISTERING THE PORT IN THE PISTON WALL WITH THE SLOT IN THE STATIONARY SLEEVE. WHEN THE PRESSURE FALLS BELOW THE DESIRED AMOUNT, THE BELLOWS EXPANDS AND MOVES THE HEAD OF THE BELLOWS AGAINST THE ACTUATING PIN TO CLOSE THE PILOT VALVE. LEAKAGE BETWEEN THE PISTON AND SLEEVE TO THE PILOT VALVE CHAMBER RAPIDLY RAISES THE PRESSURE THEREIN SO THAT THE RETURN SPRING CAN MOVE THE PISTON TO CLOSE THE OUTLET. EVEN WITH THE OUTLET CLOSED, THE SLIGHT CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE PISTON AND SLEEVE ALLOWS SOME REFRIGERANT FLOW TO INSURE ADEQUATE FLOW TO THE COMPRESSOR TO KEEP THE COMPRESSOR LUBRICATED.
