    Abstract: A running board assembly for mounting to a vehicle such as a truck includes an extruded running board body and a cover member. Advantageously the extruded running board body is made from an extrudable plastic and the cover member is advantageously made of a material having the desired exterior finish. The cover member may be metallic and have the appearance of a chrome or polished finish. The cover extends over the upper and outboard surface of the running board body to provide the desired appearance characteristics. The running board assembly is affixed to the vehicle by a plurality of mounting brackets.

    Abstract: A running board for a vehicle such as a truck is mounted to the vehicle body using a C-shaped mounting bracket. The bracket has an open clearance area to accommodate air conditioning conduits or other similar structure adjacent the vehicle body. The running board may include pivotable end caps which may be pivoted to lie parallel with the support surface of the running board and overlying front or rear vehicle fenders. Mounting bolts for the end cap may pass through the running board body of the vehicle fender and the vehicle body.

    Abstract: A bolster for assembly to an instrument panel assembly of an automotive vehicle is provided. The vehicle has a steering column with a steering column axis and at least two energy absorbing brackets located laterally to either side of the steering column axis. The bolster comprises a unitary structure having a generally forward wall and a generally aft wall. The forward wall has a forward wall, forward surface. The forward wall, forward surface includes first and second bolster transfer surfaces for transferring forces from the bolster to the energy absorbing brackets. The bolster further comprises a plurality of generally laterally extending rib structures. The rib structures extend from adjacent the first bolster transfer surface to adjacent the second bolster transfer surface. The plurality of generally laterally extending ribs structures have sufficient strength to inhibit bending of the bolster about a vertical plane when struck by a driver's knees at a point or points that are not directly aft of the bolster transfer surfaces, when the force is equal to or less than an amount specified by a test standard.

    Abstract: A molded fuel filler pipe for use in automobiles, in particular cars, comprises a one-piece structure which is blow molded. The conduit produced in the blow mold has a smooth edged tubular portion and a bellows portion which is molded at the same time. By deforming the bellows portion, flexibility in the relative location of the two ends of the conduit is provided. This eliminates taking two separate pieces and joining those pieces which may give rise to fuel vapour permeation through the joints.

    Abstract: A conduit for use as a filler pipe for transferring hydrocarbon containing fuels such as gasoline from an inlet point to a storage tank which is to be blow molded comprises a plurality of layers. The innermost layer is made from electrically conductive high density polyethylene and serves to bleed off static electricity generated during the fuel filling process. At least one of the other layers of the conduit comprises barrier material which inhibits the passage of hydrocarbon vapours through the walls of said conduit as hydrocarbon containing fuels flow along the conduit. Advantageously, the conduit may include a mounting tab intermediate the ends, the tab having a web portion which is electrically connected to the inner conductive layer to assist in locating the fuel filler conduit and providing additional conduct of static electrically to the vehicle body or frame. A process for manufacturing such multi-layer conduit comprises simultaneously extruding a multiplicity of layers through a multiple head extruder. Advantageously, a tab as desired may be formed by pinching the extruded parison after initially blowing the parison and before finally blowing the parison.
