A system for controlling sequential startup of hard disks applicable to an electronic system with at least a first set of hard disks and a second set of hard disks is provided. A power supply module is used to provide a first power signal to the first set of hard disks to startup the first set of hard disks. A processing module is used to receive the first power signal provided by the power supply module and perform a delaying process on the first power signal to generate a delayed power signal and perform an adjustment process to the delayed power signal to generate a second power signal for outputting to the second set of hard disks, so that the first set of hard disks and the second set of hard disks can be started up sequentially.

A method for reducing instantaneous current on startup is applicable to an electronic device with a management controller. The management controller is electrically connected to a startup processing module of the electronic device such that operations of fans equipped in the electronic device can be controlled via this electrical connection relationship. When the electronic device is turned on, operations of the fans in the electronic device are disabled by the startup processing module. Then, when power is detected by the management controller, the smallest amount of current possible for operations of the fans for heat-dissipating purpose is generated by the management controller. Finally, hardware components in the electronic device are initialized by the management controller. The above method solves the problem of system instability due to large instantaneous current on startup in the prior art.

A bus width automatic adjusting method and system is proposed, which is designed for use with a computer platform for providing the computer platform with a bus width automatic adjusting function; and which is characterized by dividing the bus of the interface controller on the computer platform and the bus of each connecting slot into two half-width portions such that the two half-width portions of the bus of the interface controller can be selectively connected to either just one slot or two slots depending on the current card plugging status of the slots on the motherboard of the computer platform. This feature allows the user to plug just one circuit card to one connecting slot on the motherboard or two circuit cards respectively to two connecting slots on the motherboard, and notwithstanding allow the plugged circuit board(s) to function normally and operate at the optimal data transmission rate.

A method for automatically adjusting bus widths for a first slot and a second slot of a riser card according to the number of interface cards inserted to the slots. Half of the bus width for the first slot is predetermined for transferring signals. First, a detecting unit detects whether an interface card is inserted in the second slot of the riser card, if so, the detecting unit outputs a second slot enabling signal, or else, the detecting unit outputs a second slot disabling signal. A control unit is used for receiving the second slot enabling signal or the second slot disabling signal, and enabling half of the bus width for the second slot for transferring signals if the second slot enabling signal is received, or enabling the other half of the bus width for the first slot for transferring signals if the second slot disabling signal is received.

A method and a control circuit for reducing an instantaneous startup current of a computer system by decreasing a fan rotational speed are provided. The computer system comprises a management controller coupled to a fan device through a tri-state buffer. In the present method, a duty cycle of a first PWM signal is reduced by the management controller. After that, the tri-state buffer is enabled to pass the first PWM signal with the reduced duty cycle to the fan device. Finally, the fan device is powered with the first PWM signal when the computer system is powered on. By reducing the duty cycle of the PWM signal before powering the computer system and turning on the fan device, the fan rotational speed of the fan device can be decreased when the computer system is powered on. As a result, the instantaneous startup current of the computer system can be reduced.
