摘要: A method is disclosed for the manufacture of gear wheels having two axially adjacent gears (4,6) thereon. A blank is prepared with the two gears crudely formed thereon by compressing and sintering a shaped mass of substantially metal powder. The blank is then mounted for rotation about a first axis, and the gears are roll-formed on the blank by rotating the blank in meshing engagement with respective dies (10,12) mounted for rotation about second and third axes substantially parallel to the first axis.

摘要: A gear wheel is formed from a pressed and sintered powder metal blank in which the metal powder comprises an admixture of iron powder and at least one alloying addition and the gear wheel is surface hardened by applying densifying pressure only to the tooth root regions or only to the tooth flank regions in order to establish densification in the range of 90 to 100 per cent of full theoretical density to a depth of at least 380 and up to about 1,000 microns.

摘要: A radiographic projector (10) for housing and projecting a radioisotope for use in radiography is described. The front end of the projector has a chamfered surface (12) for receiving an ancillary shielding component. The material used for the front end surface of the projector is tungsten powder in a less dense material matrix. A locking mechanism (30) for a projector is described, including a locking bar for locking a source holder in the projector. The locking mechanism includes an interlock section for retaining the locking bar in an unlocked position while a source holder is not in its storage position, and a latch section for latching the locking bar in the unlocked position prior to engagement of the interlock section. A holster for mounting a radiographic projector and a retraction cage for a remote windout mechanism are also described.
