    摘要: A single-ended blur detection probe and method with a local sharpness map for analyzing a video image sequence uses two sets of edge filters, one for “fast edges” and the other for “slow edges.” Each set of edge filters includes a horizontal bandpass filter, a vertical bandpass filter and a pair of orthogonal diagonal filters where the frequency response of the fast edge filters overlap the frequency response of the slow edge filters. The video image sequence is input to each filter of each set, and the output absolute values are combined with weighting factors to produce a slow edge weighted sum array and a fast edge weighted sum arra. The respective weighted sum arrays are then decimated to produce a slow edge decimated array and a fast edge decimated array. The ratio of the maximum difference value between the decimated arrays and the maximum value from the fast edge decimated array, weighted by an appropriate factor, produces a localized maximum sharpness value, the log of which produces a dimensionless blur value.

    摘要: A method of generating a stereoscopic image registration and color balance evaluation display enables a user to align two cameras used to produce a stereoscopic video signal or to analyze a received stereoscopic video signal. Left and right images from the cameras are converted into desired video signal components. Corresponding pixels from the left and right images are compared for each of the video signal components, and plotted as x and y inputs to a Cartesian plot to produce respective two-dimensional (2D) histograms. The multiple 2D histograms are presented as a Quad Diamond display so a user may align the two cameras or analyze the received stereoscopic video signal.

    摘要: A flexible timebase for eye diagrams uses a stable free running oscillator as a sample clock for equivalent time sampling of an input serial digital signal and of a reference signal derived from a subdivided recovered clock of the input serial digital signal. The reference signal samples are provided to a digital phase-locked loop that provides the flexible timebase to an eye pattern generator. The eye pattern generator accumulates the input serial digital signal samples at times corresponding to the reference signal samples to produce the eye diagram. A linear phase detector in the digital phase locked loop converts the reference signal samples to a complex signal using a Hilbert transform and then to a linear ramp of phase values using a CORDIC algorithm with arctangent lookup table. The digital phase-locked loop feedback is subtracted from the linear ramp to provide the input to the loop filter.

The histogram is then transferred to a jitter analyzer, which is implemented in either dedicated hardware or software running on a general purpose processor.     摘要: An artistic color gamut display is generated by obtaining maximum and minimum values for an RGB signal. The maximum and minimum values are used as X and Y values for an XY plot. A triangular graticule, or Spearhead display, is generated for the XY plot having a first side representing Lightness, a second side representing saturation and a third side representing Value. The area within the Spearhead display represents valid color gamut. The Spearhead display may be combined with more traditional displays, such as Vector or Arrowhead displays, to provide a completely three-dimensional analysis of the RGB signal in terms of the artistic parameters of Hue, Saturation and Value or Lightness.

    摘要: A method of measuring MPEG PCR jitter, frequency offset and drift rate uses a selectable, constant measurement bandwidth over non-uniform PCR arrival times and a variable PCR rate. The selectable, constant measurement bandwidth is fixed at a frequency that demarcates between jitter and wander. For each received PCR value a PCR interval is determined from the arrival time of the current PCR value and the arrival time of the preceding arrival time. The PCR values, intervals and the fixed bandwidth are input to a set of difference equations, derived either from a hybrid digital-analog PLL model where the frequency offset, drift rate and jitter are extracted from various points in the PLL feedback control system or from a linear filtering approximation to a least mean square (LMS) frequency offset and an LMS drift rate estimator of a simple second order time equation for the PCR values.

    摘要: A return-loss detector for a serial digital signal source uses a return-loss bridge circuit to exploit the broadband spectral characteristics of a serial digital signal from the signal source to monitor the termination conditions of a system being driven. A differential pair of serial digital signals from the source are input to the bridge circuit having a reference termination in one leg and the system termination in the other. A broadband detector is used at the output of the bridge circuit to generate an error signal, which is measured by a detector or metering circuit. The measured signal may be displayed as a value in dB or may be input to a comparator to provide an alarm or warning signal to an operator.

The output of the demodulator is converted to analog, lowpass filtered, squared and compared with a threshold value. The result of the comparison produces an error signal when bit errors occur. The bit errors may be counted over a predetermined time period, may be used to switch a data filter into the video data output path to conceal the bit errors, and may be used to map the bit errors to a display for visualization of the location of the errors within a video image represented by the serial digital video.

    摘要: A sync vector generator for a composite vectorscope generates a gate from the horizontal sync pulses of a video input signal as a function of a reference signal selected from either the video input signal or an external reference signal. The gate width is equal to an integer multiple of cycles of the subcarrier frequency for the video input signal. A high-Q resonant tank circuit tuned to the subcarrier frequency is activated by the gate to produce a burst signal having a frequency equal to the subcarrier frequency and having a number of cycles equal to the integer multiple. The burst signal is input together with quadrature subcarrier frequency components to the demodulators of a conventional vectorscope to produce an output display that is a measure of horizontal sync jitter and instantaneous SC/H phase.

    摘要: A recursive noise reduction filter for video components reduces the noise bandwidth of a signal without degrading the signal spectrum. Demodulated chrominance or peak detected chrominance from a video signal output by a video system in reponse to a video test signal is input to the recursive noise reduction filter which acts as a comb filter to suppress noise significantly at frequencies other than harmonics of the horizontal line rate. The signal is scaled by a first attenuator having a scaling factor of (1-a), where (a) is less than one, and input to a summing circuit. Also input to the summing circuit is a delayed signal from a prior horizontal line scaled by the scaling factor (a). The output of the summing circuit is a filtered output signal. The signal is sampled only during horizontal lines that have the video test signal and is stored for subsequent accumulation with other horizontal lines also having the video test signal. The fitler serves to add the vertically correlated part of the signal corresponding to the video test signal while averaging out the noise, thus improving the overall signal to noise ratio without degrading the signal spectrum and, hence, enhancing differential gain and phase measurements.
