摘要: The invention relates to retrovirus-like particles having an altered nucleocapsid domain that inhibits packaging of genomic RNA into the retrovirus-like particle, and a protease having reduced enzymatic activity. The invention also provides nucleic acid constructs that encode the retrovirus-like particles. Also provided are immunological compositions, vaccines, and DNA vaccines containing the retrovirus-like particles and nucleic acid constructs that can be used to immunize a mammal against infection by a retrovirus. Methods to produce retrovirus-like particles are also provided.

摘要: Nutraceutical and dietary supplement formulations for delivering bioavailable thiols to a host, comprising certain organosulfur radicals, such as the allyl mercapto radical, bound to larger molecules such as proteins, resulting in the formation in the host's body of various allium-related compounds such as allicin. The formulations are produced by treating an ingestible material comprising a cysteine-containing protein with a thiol, disulfide, mixed disulfide, thiosufinate or mixed thiosulfinate so as to cause thiol residues to become disulfide bonded to cysteines contained in the protein.

摘要: In an embodiment a software application may include a “baseline trace” indicating proper application execution. The baseline trace may include counts for various types of instructions (e.g., how many times each of a LR instruction and a MV instruction occurs during an execution of code). The finished application includes the baseline trace. Upon execution the application randomly selects which of the various types of instructions to count during execution (e.g., LR or MV instruction) to produce a “real time trace”. The application executes and produces the real-time trace. The baseline trace is then compared to the real-time trace, which is specific to the randomly chosen type of instruction. If the traces are within a pre-determined range of each other the user has a level of assurance the software is operating correctly. Other embodiments are described herein.

摘要: An automated neighbor discovery by a base station with the assistance of an access terminal are disclosed. An exemplary method includes receiving a first message from an access terminal based on detecting an identification signal by the access terminal from the first base station in a communication system. Determination whether the first base station is a known base station is then made. If the first base station is not known, a second message is transmitted to the access terminal requesting a network identification of the first base station. A third message from the access terminal is received in response to the second message including the requested network identification. A request for identification data is sent by the second base station to the first base station via a network link based on the network identification. Corresponding apparatus and other exemplary methods are also disclosed.

摘要: A method for increasing the bioavailability of cysteine within an animal by reducing extracellular cysteine disulfide molecules to produce extracellular cysteine molecules. A membrane permeable thiol molecule that forms a membrane permeable disulfide molecule after becoming oxidized participates in thiol-disulfide exchange reactions on both sides of the cellular membrane, crossing the membrane randomly via simple diffusion. The membrane permeable disulfide, within or upon entering the highly reductive environment of a cell, becomes reduced to form a membrane permeable thiol molecule. the membrane permeable thiol can then diffuse to the exterior of the cell, where it is available to reduce another cystine molecule. This process can continue cycling, producing net cumulative increase in the concentration of extracellular cysteine. This is beneficial for providing cysteine as a nutrient to cells that require cysteine for nourishment.

摘要: Personal care products useful for the maintenance of personal appearance and good health and minor treatments that do not require professional health care, as well as products that provide a combination of anti-microbial, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-aging properties and are suitable for use without a prescription. The products utilize a biomembrane permeable organosulfur compound that can redox cycle between thiol, disulfide, and thiosulfinate forms in response to oxidants and antioxidants inside and outside of cells. Example products include an anti-microbial toothpaste with anti-plaque properties, an anti-inflammatory skin lotion with antioxidant, antimicrobial, and deodorant properties, and an anti-toxin skin lotion with anti-arsenicosis properties.

摘要: A control circuit for a model railroad utilizes a digital counter to control the modes of motor operation. To select a mode of operation a switch is used to repeatedly ground the base of a transistor circuit, causing pulses to be sent to a counter. By using the switch to hold the base of the transistor to ground, the counter sequencing is locked and prevented from further sequencing until the track power is turned off for a defined minimum amount of time. Release of this switched ground places the circuit under track control where short power interrupts cause the counter to sequence to the next count and therefore to sequence the modes of motor operation.

摘要: An improved carrying assembly is provided for using with, and controlled from, a helicopter to seize and lift immobilized vehicles from freeways and other limited access highways. The carrying assembly may be composed of an integrated and framework having four selectively adjustable vertical leg members, each horizontally positionable one to another, for seizing and supporting the vehicle at appropriate points on its chassis whereby the carrying assembly can engage vehicles of many different sizes and configurations. Control and actuation of each of the different segments of the framework is preferably achieved from within the helicopter, whereby the vehicle targeted from removal can be directly approached from overhead, and whereby the vehicle can be securely seized and lifted without assistance from personnel on the ground.
