    摘要: An improved plastic push in tube fitting includes a plastic body, an elastomer o-ring for sealing, and a plastic collet. The collet and o-ring are disposed in the body such that a tube can be pushed into the body through the collet and o-ring and held against withdrawal from the body by the collet. The collet is formed entirely of plastic and has a plurality of circumferential sections for encircling a tube pushed into the body. Each of the circumferential sections has a radially inwardly facing circumferential tube gripper. The tube gripper is formed by a ramp which faces a tube being pushed into the body so that the collet will encounter the ramp and move the circumferential sections radially apart. The gripper also includes a circumferential surface which faces away from a tube being pushed into the body. The circumferential ramp and the circumferential surface form a gripper edge at their junction and this edge engages and holds a tube pushed into the body through the collet. Preferably the ramp has an angle with respect to a tube pushed into the collet of between 15 and 40 degrees. Also preferably the internal angle between the circumferential ramp and the circumferential surface is between 75 and 120 degrees. The arcuate shape of the gripper edge is the same as the arcuate shape of the exterior of a tube pushed through the collet. The collet preferably is formed of hard plastics, such as poly (ether ether ketone), polyetherimide, polybutylene terephthalate, polyphthalamide and polymers of acetal homopolymer.

    摘要: A method of hose construction and product formed thereby consisting of an extruded thermoplastic core tube having ferrometallic wire reinforcement windings thereon which are closely wound and providing minute spaces between the wires. The reinforced core tube structure is elevated in temperature by an induction heater which concentrates heating in the wire reinforcement and transfers heat from the wire by conduction to the outer periphery of the core tube. Supplemental conventional heaters may be used in conjunction therewith to achieve substantial temperature elevation of the wire reinforcement. Thereafter a thermoplastic cover is pressure extruded over the heated wire reinforcement and forced through the minute spaces in the reinforcement into engagement with the core tube periphery. Cool-down establishes a bond between cover, wires and core tube and a mechanically locked, integral composite hose structure.

    摘要: A flexible composite hose which can be connected to a swageable fitting without creating a weakness in the hose adjacent the end of the fitting. The hose utilizes two or more braided reinforcement layers comprised of yarn formed from twisted strands of reinforcing material. During swaging, the twisted yarn in each reinforcement layer interlocks with the twisted yarn of the adjacent reinforcement layer preventing relative longitudinal motion therebetween and bunching of the reinforcement material which would create a weakness in the hose structure.

    摘要: A method for producing a high strength flexible composite hose, and a hose produced by the method. The method includes forming a hollow inner core of uncured thermosetting elastomeric material. One or more layers of reinforcement material are applied to the outer peripheral surface of the uncured core. The uncured core and the reinforcement material are then encapsulated with a thermoplastic elastomeric cover while maintaining the temperature of the core below its vulcanization temperature. The temperature of the core and reinforcement material and cover is then increased to and maintained at a temperature which is at least as great as the vulcanization temperature of the core but less than the melting temperature of the cover for a time sufficient to vulcanize the core. The cover material has a smaller coefficient of thermal expansion than the uncured core material, and the cover material has sufficient tensile strength at the core vulcanization temperature to prevent localized plastic strain of the cover and to prevent the core from bleeding through the cover. The thermoplastic elastomeric cover thus provides a mold for the core and reinforcement material to maintain the shape of the core during vulcanization, and provides a permanent protective sheath for the completed hose after vulcanization.
