Abstract: Disclosed herein is a textile comprising: a) a first yarn comprising one or more filaments comprising a first polymer; b) one or more additional yarns comprising a composition and/or properties different from the first yarn; wherein the first yarn exhibits an elasticity higher than an elasticity of the one or more additional yarns the textile exhibits an ultimate elongation of about 50% to about 700% and is shape-adapting and biocompatible, and wherein the textile is configured to be inserted and/or implanted in a subject's body. Also described herein are medical devices having the disclosed textiles. In addition, disclosed herein are methods of making the disclosed textiles.

Abstract: The method includes forming an inner monolithic layer from crystals of beta phase stoichiometric silicon carbide on a carbon substrate in the form of a rod by chemical methylsilane vapor deposition in a sealed tubular hot-wall CVD reactor. The method further includes forming a central composite layer over the inner monolithic layer by twisting continuous beta phase stoichiometric silicon carbide fibers into tows, transporting the tows to a braiding machine, and forming a reinforcing thread framework. A pyrocarbon interface coating is built up by chemical methane vapor deposition in a sealed tubular hot-wall CVD reactor. Then, a matrix is formed by chemical methylsilane vapor deposition in the reactor. A protective outer monolithic layer is formed from crystals of beta phase stoichiometric silicon carbide over the central composite layer by chemical methylsilane vapor deposition in a CVD reactor. And then the carbon substrate is removed from the fabricated semi-finished product.

Abstract: Provided is a method for manufacturing a fishing net formed from a plastic net that can be handled by winding or folding although the net has plastic rigidity. The fishing net is manufactured by (1) a step of preparing a multifilament yarn formed by bundling a plurality of core-sheath type composite filaments, in each of which a core component is made of polyethylene terephthalate and a sheath component is made of polyolefin, (2) a step of preparing a yarn thread obtained by paralleling a plurality of the multifilament yarns, (3) a step of twisting or braiding four yarn threads 11, 12, 13, 14 to obtain a net constructed with strands 1 and intersections 2, (4) a step of heat-treating the net under without pressure to melt the sheath component of the yarn threads 11, 12, 13, 14 constituting the strands 1 and the intersections 2, followed by solidifying, thus obtaining a plastic net, and (5) a step of forming the fishing net using the plastic net.

Abstract: Provided is a configuration capable of improving the signal strength of a piezoelectric element using piezoelectric fibers. This braided piezoelectric element comprises a core comprising conductive fibers and a sheath comprising braided piezoelectric fibers so as to cover the core, the braided piezoelectric element further comprising a metal terminal connected and fixed to the core in either of the following states A or B. A) A state where a portion of the metal terminal grasps a fiber portion constituting the end of a braided piezoelectric element and the core and the metal terminal are electrically connected to each other and fixed within 1 mm from where the metal terminal grasps the fiber portion. B) A state where: a portion of the metal terminal has a fork or needle shape; the fork-shaped or needle-shaped portion is electrically connected to the core while in contact with the sheath; and the braided piezoelectric element is secured to the metal terminal by another portion of the metal terminal or a component fixed to the metal terminal within 10 mm from the point of the electrical connection.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a Raschel lace knitted fabric. In a knitting step, a Raschel knitted fabric is knitted by inserting an insertion yarn made of the same type of material as a first chain stitch yarn into a chain stitch weave which is knitted by feeding the first chain stitch yarn made of a meltable material and a second chain stitch yarn having a higher melting temperature than the first chain stitch yarn from different beams to individual reeds. Heat treatment is performed for a treatment time in which the second chain stitch yarns and a weft passage yarn remain as yarns, at a temperature equal to or lower than the melting temperature of the second chain stitch yarn and equal to or higher than the melting temperature of the meltable material, in a state where the Raschel knitted fabric is stretched.

Abstract: A protective textile having at least one integrated opening and method of construction thereof is provided. The sleeve includes a braided, tubular wall extending lengthwise in relation to a central longitudinal axis between opposite ends. The wall has a first state with a decreased length, increased cross-sectional area and a second state with an increased length, decreased cross-sectional area, as viewed in cross-section taken generally transversely to the central longitudinal axis. The wall further includes braided, heat-set yarns imparting a bias on the wall, wherein the bias causes the wall to remain substantially in the first and second states absent some externally applied force. The wall also includes at least one opening having a circumferentially continuous periphery bounding the opening, wherein the periphery is formed, at least in part, by braided yarns reversing direction from one S or Z helical direction to the opposite S or Z helical direction.
