摘要： An ion source, a mass spectrometer and a method of enhancing the performance of an ion source for use with a mass spectrometer. The ion source has a housing incorporating an ion source enclosure defining a chamber and an outer cover remote from the chamber. A fluid flow passageway is provided between the ion source enclosure and the outer cover. The method of the invention comprising supplying to the ion source housing a regulated flow of fluid through the fluid passageways so as to maintain the ion source enclosure within a predetermined temperature range of substantially between 60° c. and 80° c. and preferably at 70° c.

摘要： A fault detection system for protecting a mass spectrometer from the effects of temperature extremes. The system comprises an ion block, a thermal source for providing thermal energy to the ion source block, a temperature sensor providing a reading for the temperature of the ion source block, a temperature regulation means for controlling the thermal source in dependence of the reading and a control system for monitoring the temperature change produced by the energy source. The control system is adapted to monitor the rate of change of the reading provided by the temperature sensor relative to the thermal energy provided to the ion block.

摘要： A capacitor assembly (1) for measuring the level of radio frequency voltage in a mass spectrometer. The assembly (1) includes an RF sensing capacitor (2) with first and second capacitor plates (3, 4), a rectifying circuit (5) and a vacuum housing feedthrough (6), all of which are mounted within a vacuum enclosure of the mass spectrometer. The first capacitor plate (3) is adapted for connection to a voltage source and mounted within the enclosure by first insulating spacers (31). The second capacitor plate (4) is nested within the first insulating spacers (31) and mounted within the enclosure by second insulating spacers (41). The rectifying circuit (5) is electrically connected to the second capacitor plate (4) and to the vacuum housing feedthrough (6).

摘要： A cryptographically scrubbable disk performs erasure of a cryptographic key covering a body of data to render the body of data unintelligible. A scrub controller interfaced between a computing appliance and a storage volume generates a scrub key and encrypts each block of data written to the storage volume using the scrub key. Data read commands decrypt using the same key. The scrub controller is an electronically separate conduit having independent memory and power, thus the scrub key remains within the scrub controller and unexposed, and is thus inaccessible via the processor of the computing appliance. The scrub key remains in the scrub controller such that the scrub key never leaves the scrub controller and is also inaccessible to retrieval since the scrub controller does not share memory or access with the computer and is thus electronically separate from the supported computing appliance.
