An apparatus for producing or forming surfaces at the cutter blade head portion of a cutter blade formed of hardened steel. The hardened steel blades, provided with a cutter blade head portion, are contemplated to be used in the cutter head of a gear cutting machine. In order to form the surfaces of the cutter blade head in a relatively short amount of time, without impermissible heating of the cutter blade steel, there is formed during a first step a pre-profile of the blade head by means of a cutting-off device containing a cutting-off grinding disk. During a further step the preformed surfaces of the pre-profile are ground into cutter blade surfaces at the heretofore conventionally used grinding machine. The apparatus for performing the method contains a rotatable hearing or support unit, adjustable into different positions, in which there is mounted the cutting-off grinding disk.

For evaluating running quality of gears, a vibration measuring apparatus with a vibration pickup or sensor is provided at least at a headstock for holding a gear wheel a bevel gear or pinion. The signal pickup or reception of the vibration pickup or sensor is processed by suitable evaluation devices. A measuring ring is provided at the headstock in order to detect the maximum vibration components independently of the design of the gear set. The measuring ring carries the vibration pickup and is rotatably mounted on an associated spindle and can be rotated and positionally fixed relative to the headstock.

At a cutter apparatus for producing surfaces of a cutter head at a hardened steel cutter blade there is provided for monitoring the wear and for its rapid compensation a mounting or support device for a material-removal or cutting grinding disk and a power take-off wheel which is axially displaceable with respect to a pivot axis. Additionally, the width of the power take-off wheel is greater, by the amount of an adjustment path for the cutting grinding disk, than the width of a drive belt for the power take-off wheel. Furthermore, there is provided a reference surface for adjusting a movement plane of the cutter grinding disk in a desired cutting plane.

A method for the application of data to a workpiece wherein the determination of the data occurs at a testing machine, and the data is transmitted to a marking device and applied by such marking device to the workpiece. According to the invention for the application of the data to the workpiece the workpiece is removed from the testing location of the testing machine and mounted at the marking device and the determined data remains stored after removal of the workpiece from the testing machine. The apparatus for the performance of the aforesaid method aspects is manifested by the features that the marking device is arranged externally of the testing location of the testing machine and a storage stores the data which has been determined at the testing machine.
