    摘要: The present invention offers improvement of performance and efficiency of a compact fluorescent lamp by means of a series tuned LRC ballasting circuit. The resonant voltage rise in the circuit is utilized to increase the cyclic crest voltage necessary for lamp ionization. After ionization occurs, lamp current and power are clamped and regulated by the lower Q factor of the tuned circuit. The LRC circuit provides a square wave of voltage across the lamp with considerable reduction in noise and RF ringing. Since it is a tuned circuit, it operates at approximately unity power factor, at lower temperature, and with a net equivalent impedance that provides for maximum illumination, lamp life and efficiency.

    摘要: An induction motor includes a stator having at least one pair of stator windings and a rotor with rotor windings which are magnetically coupled to the stator windings via a circumferential air gap. The rotor windings are connected together in a squirrel cage or a wound rotor configuration. The stator windings are connected in series across the source. A capacitor is connected in parallel with one of the stator windings and this combination is connected in series with the other stator winding and is sized to form a quasi-double-resonant circuit, i.e., a quasi-parallel resonant circuit with the one winding and a quasi-series resonant circuit with the other winding. The stator windings are then grouped to form definite polar areas in the stator and a balanced rotating magnetic field is produced by all the windings throughout the entire load range when the motor is connected to a power source. Both a single-phase and a polyphase motor can be configured as a quasi-double-resonant circuit with respect to each input power phase. A further polyphase motor is also described with primary stator windings connected to each power phase input and interleaved secondary stator winding magnetically coupled to the primary stator windings but not directly connected to the power inputs. The secondary stator windings have capacitors coupled in parallel thereto to form parallel floating resonant circuits. In all of these motors, the power factor is in the range of 0.96 to 1.00, but normally closer to unity due to the resonant behavior of the circuitry. The induction motor can be driven above synchronous speed to act as a generator. Also, a method of generating torque is described.

Mounted on the inner surface and across a blade containing region of the fan case is a load spreader layer for initially receiving a point load from a fan blade release (a “blade-out event”). A band layer is mounted to an outer surface of the fan case for carrying at least a portion of a hoop tensile load on the fan case resulting from the blade-out event, and separator film layer is mounted between the outer surface of the fan case and the band layer to retard the formation of stress concentrations in the band layer. In one embodiment, the load spreader layer includes a plurality of circumferentially-arrayed load spreader layer segments.

    摘要: In an induction motor rotor windings are connected together in a squirrel cage or a wound rotor .DELTA. configuration and stator windings are connected in series across a source. A capacitor is connected in parallel with one of the stator windings and this combination is connected in series with the other stator winding and is sized to form a quasi-double-resonant circuit. Both a single-phase and a polyphase motor can be configured as a quasi-double-resonant circuit with respect to each input power phase. A switching circuit employing compactors allows changing the rotation direction of the motor in a polyphase motor. A further polyphase motor is also described with primary stator windings connected to each power phase input and interleaved secondary stator winding, magnetically coupled to the primary stator windings but not directly connected to the power inputs. The secondary stator windings have capacitors coupled in parallel thereto to form parallel floating resonant circuits.

    摘要: A Remote Area Monitoring System (RAMS) for detecting movement in a disallowed direction through a passageway (P). The RAMS monitors two volumetric spaces that are established by the system, both of which spaces are defined with respect to depth, width, and height. Both a warning zone and an alarm zone are defined for each space. The warning zone protects against inadvertent incursion into the protected spaces; while the alarm zone protects against intentional intrusions thereinto by movement in the disallowed direction. The RAMS automatically monitors both zones and does not require human vigilance to detect and warn of an incursion or intrusion. Human traffic, in both directions through the zones, is monitored; as well as the movement of objects. Movement of humans is detected using a sensor (16) employing machine vision technology including multiple overhead modules (12) linked together so to cover the passageway through which pedestrians travel. The zones covered by the modules overlap so to insure that there are no gaps in coverage. A sensor (18) employs near infrared (IR) imaging techniques to detect thrown or tossed objects. A workstation (20) includes a display (52) where alarm events are recorded and logged. The workstation also includes recording (34) and printing (36) equipment to aid in apprehension of an intruder.
