    摘要: The present invention is directed to any electrochemical cell casing design having an electrolyte fill aperture. The electrolyte fill aperture receives and directs the electrolyte into the casing. A fill plug has at least two components—an insert section detachably connected to a placement unit. The placement unit allows a user to properly position the insert section into the electrolyte fill aperture. Once this is done, the placement unit is detached from the insert section. The insert section in then hermetically sealed to the casing. If desired, the fill plug can be used for filling the electrolyte in the casing.

    摘要: A highly compact electrochemical cell comprised of a casing having a proximal opening, a distal opening, and an intermediate sidewall surrounding an enclosed volume. A glass-to-metal seal is disposed in the proximal opening and within the enclosed volume of the casing, and a terminal pin extends from outside the casing through the glass-to-metal seal into the enclosed casing volume. An insulator is disposed along the casing sidewall. A cathode is contained within the insulator in electrical contact with the terminal pin. A separator disc is disposed contiguously with the casing sidewall and in contact with the cathode. An anode is provided in contact with the separator disc and with the casing sidewall opposite the cathode. An electrolyte is provided within the cell, and a lid is sealed to the casing to hermetically enclose the cell contents.

    摘要: A electrical connector for connection to an electrochemical cell, wherein the connector is disposed on the cell exterior, and does not occupy internal volume of the cell. The connector comprises a conductive lid including a wall, and an opening therethrough; a ferrule comprised of a conductive hollow cylindrical body having a central axis, an interior surface, an exterior surface, an outer end, and an inner end, the inner end disposed within the opening through the wall of the conductive lid; a conductive center pin disposed within the hollow cylindrical body of the ferrule and aligned along the central axis thereof, thereby forming an annular cavity between an elongated surface of the center pin and the interior surface of the ferrule; and a hermetic seal formed in the annular cavity. A mating terminal connector adapted to be connected to the ferrule and the conductive center pin is further provided. The terminal connector is a device for easily and quickly connecting the cell to a circuit board of the kind found in an implantable medical device, such as a cardiac pacemaker, defibrillator, neuro-stimulator, drug pump, and the like.

The assembly of a first and second glass-to-metal seals is constructed with respective insulating glasses having different softening points. The assembly of glass-to-metal seals is constructed in a sequential order progressing from insulating glasses having a greater softening point to a lower softening point. Each of the plurality of glass-to-metal seals are created through subjecting the insulating glass and lead combinations through a series of individual heat treatments, each sequential heat treatment having a maximum temperature that is less than the previous heat treatment and less than the softening point of the insulating glass within the prior glass-to-metal seal.
