    Abstract: A multi-domain vertical alignment liquid crystal display (MVA LCD) panel has a bottom substrate, a top substrate parallel to the bottom substrate, and a liquid crystal molecule layer filled in between. The panel further has a plurality of pixel regions arranged in arrays on the bottom substrate, a plurality of common lines traversing the pixel regions, a plurality of pixel electrodes positioned in each pixel region above the common lines, a plurality of slits positioned on each pixel electrode, a common electrode layer positioned on the surface of the top substrate, and a plurality of protrusions arranged parallel to and alternatively with the slits and positioned on the surface of the common electrode layer. The protrusions and the common lines are partially overlapped.

    Abstract: An antibody, which specifically recognizes adducts between pyrrole and cellular macromolecules. Such adducts are likely to occur in mammals suffering an incident of pyrrolizidine alkaloid poisoning. The antibody can be produced using a synthetic immunogen conjugated with a pyrrole as a hapten and it can be used, for example in an assay kit and/or by itself, as a novel means for detecting or diagnosing pyrrolizidine alkaloid poisoning both clinics and research laboratories.

    Abstract: The present invention provides plant extracts, isolated alkaloids, synthetic alkaloids and compositions having antitussive activity. In some preferred embodiments, the plant extracts and the isolated alkaloids are from a plant of a genus in the family Stemonaceae. In other preferred embodiments, the plant extracts and the isolated alkaloids are from a plant of the genus Stemona, Croomia, or Stichoneuron. In especially preferred embodiments, the plant extracts and the isolated alkaloids are from the plant Stemona tuberosa. The present invention further provides methods for isolating such plant extracts and alkaloids. In addition, the present invention provides methods for reducing or suppressing coughing by administering plant extracts, alkaloids and compositions having antitussive activity.
