    摘要: To maintain an image eraser used for erasing a toner image printed on a sheet operable wastes power, and additionally, a manual operation is required for loading a sheet feed portion with sheets from which the printed image is removed for reuse. The main body of an image forming apparatus is provided with a tray for image erasure and a feed roller for feeding sheets from the tray. Disposed in a passage for transporting the sheets from the tray is an image eraser comprising a nozzle for applying a treatment for removal of toner, a toner removal roller and a pressure roller and the likes. By means of a transport roller, sheets are transferred from the image eraser to an intermediate tray or a registration roller for feeding sheets to an image forming position. The image eraser is actuated for image erasure while the image forming apparatus is not performing an image forming operation. The sheets from which the image is removed are received by the intermediate tray which, in turn, feeds the sheets for image forming operation if it is determined before execution of the operation that the sheets in the intermediate tray match with a sheet size specified for the operation.

Then, a range of a discharge gap is obtained (approximately 5.about.10 mm) satisfying a range of the required surface potential (-600 V) and the tolerable surface potential variation (30 V). The relationship of the discharge gap with respect to the surface potential and the surface potential variation is varied by reducing the applied current. The discharge gap is converged to one value (approximately 7.5 mm) in response to the range of the discharge gap being reduced.

    摘要: A document detector for a copying machine includes a rectangular document support atop the machine housing and being of corner aligning type which has at least first and second side edges orthogonal to each other for the support thereon of a document with corresponding adjoining sides of the document held generally in abutment with the first and second side edges, and a hingedly supported, generally flat cover mounted on the machine housing for covering the document support when the cover is moved to a closed position. The detector includes a light emitting member and a light receiving member both disposed inside the machine housing at a location beneath one of the first and second side edges of the document support, a reflecting medium secured to the cover for reflecting a beam of light, emitted from the light emitting member, towards the light receiving member, a reflector carried inside and by the machine housing and positioned immediately below such one of the side edges of the document support for guiding the light beam from the light emitting member upwardly towards the reflecting medium and also for guiding the light beam, which has been reflected from the reflecting medium, towards the light receiving member, and a circuit for providing an output indicative of the presence of the document on the document support.

    摘要: Bidirectional communication is carried out between a toner bottle end communication device disposed in a toner bottle and a main body end communication device disposed in a device main body while the toner bottle is moved from a first position where the toner bottle starts being attached to the device main body to a second position where the toner bottle is completely attached. The CPU provided in the main body end communication device decides whether or not the information on the toner bottle received from the toner bottle end communication device matches the device main body, and notifies prior to toner refilling. If the toner bottle is not suitable, the CPU specifies a lower quality image forming condition under which operation conditions for the main charging device, exposure device, and fixing device are changed so as to produce an image of relatively low quality in comparison to normal quality. The user can single out a bogus product among unsuitable toner bottles by identifying a degradation in the quality of the image produced by that condition.
