Abstract: Automatic emitter point cleaners are disclosed. An automatic emitter point cleaning system includes: a fan configured to direct a stream of air through an air path; a point emitter configured to produce at least one of positive ions or negative ions within or proximate to the air path; a brush; a first gear coupled to the brush and configured to move the brush into contact with the point emitter; a second gear to engage the first gear; and a motor to actuate the second gear such that the second gear actuates the first gear to move the brush past the point emitter.

Abstract: A firing tip for a corona igniter is provided. The firing tip includes a base formed of metal, such as nickel, and rivets formed of precious metal, such as iridium. The base includes indentations, and the rivets are disposed in the indentations of the base. The rivet has a melting point and/or wear resistance greater than the base. Typically, the indentations of the base include a concave surface and the rivets have a cylindrical shape matching the shape of the indentations. The rivets can be sharpened to a point. The rivets can include a first piece formed of precious metal and a second piece formed of nickel or nickel alloy, wherein an end of the first piece is welded to an end of the second piece, and the second piece is welded to the base. Alternatively, the rivets can be formed entirely of the precious metal.

Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide a polarized vinylidene fluoride/tetrafluoroethylene copolymer resin film that can significantly reduce, when used as an optical film, the deterioration of the quality of video or still images formed by display elements.The present invention provides a polarized vinylidene fluoride/tetrafluoroethylene copolymer resin film having 2,000 or fewer spot defects per m2, the number of spot defects being measured by a defect measurement method; the method using an surface inspection system in which a CCD camera is placed so as to detect defects at an angle of 45 degrees relative to an LED source, defects of the film are read within a rectangular range of 300 mm in a width direction (the direction perpendicular to the scanning direction), and 150 mm in a machine direction (the scanning direction), while the film is scanned under the camera at a rate of 20 m/min; wherein first, defects having a bright area of 1.5 mm2 or less and a dark area of 1.4 mm2 or less are selected; and next, in order to remove defects resulting from causes other than a corona treatment contained in these defects, a circumscribed rectangle of defect is set so as to have two sides along the scanning direction, and the number of only defects that have a circumscribed width of 2.88 mm or less, a circumscribed length of 2.3 mm or less, an aspect ratio of −39 to +27, an occupancy area ratio in the circumscribing rectangle of 4,000 to 6,950, and an area ratio of −3,100 to +5,200, is automatically counted as spot defects by the surface inspection system.

Abstract: A reversed-assembled corona igniter including an insulator, central electrode, and metal shell, wherein an outer diameter of the insulator increases adjacent a lower end of the metal shell to achieve an electrical advantage is provided. In addition, the insulator maintains strength because is not placed under tension during or after assembly, or once disposed in an engine. To achieve the increase in insulator outer diameter, the insulator includes a lower shoulder adjacent the shell firing end. An intermediate part, such as braze and/or a metal ring, is disposed between the insulator outer surface and the shell adjacent the shell firing end. To prevent tension in the insulator, the insulator can be supported at only one location between the insulator upper end and the insulator lower end, for example along the intermediate part.
