Preferably a second, rotationally adjustable, but fixed slit diaphragm (5) is provided, having slits (6) opening across a set angular sector, the rotatitng slit diaphragm (7) having a larger number of slits (8). Because of this the required rpm of the slit diaphragm (7) can be reduced. To avoid errors caused by the pattern of the material it is possible to operate in the relatively longer wave infrared spectrum.

The invention relates to a process for the optical sorting of bulk material in a colour-sorting machine while it is conveyed over a transport belt and moves past an observation head with a light source and a product signal receiver arranged in the vicinity of the light source, whereby the reflected light of the image points of the examination material is broken down into several spectral ranges by various colour filters of detection elements lying next to one another of a line of the receiver and the examination material is sorted on the basis of the colour values (measured value of the intensity in the colour in question). According to the invention, it is provided in order to improve the detection rate that, in the case of examination material mixed with reject parts, in each case the colour values of the product are studied in several selected sub-ranges, while, in every sub-range, a classifier ascertains connected areas of image points with colour values falling into the pertinent sub-range and carries out a classification according to preset criteria from the geometry and the size of these detection areas.

Patterns of two fabric layers are each recognized by a camera and the fabric layers are aligned to make these patterns agree in the transverse and longitudinal directions. According to the invention the influence of speed-related disturbance variables and pattern-related limitations during the generation of the signal is reduced. Two-dimensional images of the two fabric layers are recorded with a matrix camera each during a pause between feeds. The degree of congurence of the fabric layers according to the pattern is determined by two-dimensional cross-correlation analysis of the image points arranged in rows and columns. Aligning correction values are calculated from this degree. The edge distance of the fabric layers is determined with a section of the matrix sensors, which is a separate section in terms of evaluation. Based on the edge distance data, the lower fabric layer is adjusted to the correct distance continuously and the upper fabric layer is adjusted as needed. If slight inaccuracies are accepted and the computation operations are limited only to the areas that are of interest, the overall computation time can be considerably reduced.

A method and apparatus for the pattern-correct sewing together of two pieces of cloth having the same pattern by a sewing machine with one cloth feed mechanism arranged over and one arranged under the cloth pieces, the feed quantity of which is variably by at least one positioning system relative to each other, uses a sensor arranged upstream of a stitch forming point for each cloth piece and a signal processing unit which processes signals from the sensors corresponding to the relative position of the cloth pieces and which influences the positioning system for the feed mechanism in accordance with the established relative position of the cloth pieces. For the pattern-correct sewing together of the two cloth pieces, the pattern structure of each cloth piece is continuously determined by the sensors by measuring values of a structure-or pattern-typical criterion. The found values are sent as signals to the signal processing unit, and the signals of both sensors, taken from the two cloth pieces within the same predetermined length before the stitch forming point, are stored independently of each other in the signal processing unit as signal sequences. From the signal sequences the signal processing unit determines the momentary offset between the two cloth parts by calculation of their degree of overlap and thereby controls the positioning system.
