Provided are a remote controller and a method of controlling the remote controller, wherein the remote controller is operable to be in one of a first operating mode or a second operating mode, and which is connectable to a docking station, the remote controller including: an internal display screen, which displays at least one digital image; and a controller which may be operable to change between the first and second operating modes, wherein if the remote controller is connected to the docking station and if the remote controller is in the second operating mode, the controller controls the remote controller to change to the first operating mode to provide predetermined multimedia content.

A display apparatus includes an image processor which processes an image to display an image content; a display unit which displays thereon an image content that is processed by the image processor; and a controller which displays a user interface (UI) menu including a plurality of UI items to search the image content, as one of a two-dimensional (2D) layout by which the plurality of UI items are arranged in a 2D manner, and a three-dimensional (3D) layout by which the plurality of UI items are arranged in a 3D manner , and changes displaying the one of the layouts to display the other of the layouts according to a user's command while maintaining a continuity of the arrangement of the plurality of UI items. Accordingly, search for an image content can be efficiently performed by using a UI menu.

An on-screen-display (OSD) item displaying method and a display apparatus applying the OSD item displaying method. In the method an OSD menu containing a plurality of OSD items is displayed on an OSD menu display area, and when an event occurs, an event OSD item associated with the event may be displayed using the OSD menu display area and a content display area. Therefore, the display apparatus can selectively display the OSD menu on the content display area, which enables a user to more easily recognize important information.
