A diagnostic apparatus for diagnosising of a valve device in a turbine system comprises at least one of a pressure sensor for sensing hydraulic pressure in a hydraulic cylinder for driving a valve body of the valve device and a position sensor for sensing the displacement of the valve body, and a processing device for processing the output signal from the above-mentioned at least one sensor. The processing device has an offset computing device which receives a signal representing the actual operating state of the valve device obtained on the basis of the output signal from the at least one sensor and a signal corresponding to a reference value obtained under the normal operating state of the valve device. The offset computing device is operable to compute the offset between the signals received thereto. A judging device is provided for judging as to whether or not there is a symptom of a sticking in the valve device, in accordance with the output signal from the offset computing device.

A combined valve including in combination a stop valve for blocking heating steam introduced into a steam turbine and a control valve assembled in a valve casing in opposed relation. The stop valve is located upstream of the control valve with respect to the stream of the heating steam, and the stop valve and the control valve are each formed in the valve body of a main valve thereof with a bypass valve for allowing the heating steam to flow therethrough. The arrangement enables steam to flow in a volume necessary for starting the steam turbine and allows the limitations placed on the stop valve in opening same to be eliminated.

A cross compound turbine apparatus and method of operating the same wherein the apparatus includes a first turbine generator having a high pressure turbine and a first low pressure turbine connected to a first generator driving shaft, with the second turbine generator having an intermediate pressure turbine connected to a second generator driving shaft. Driving steam is supplied to the high pressure turbine and a primary steam line communicates exhaust steam from the high pressure turbine to drive the intermediate pressure turbine during a steady state operation of the first and second turbine generator sections. A bypass steam line communicates steam from the system supplying driving steam to the high pressure turbine to the intermediate pressure turbine in a bypassing relationship to the high pressure turbine. A control arrangement controls the flow of steam in the primary and bypass steam lines during a starting operating of the turbine generator sections, with the control arrangement being adapted to maintain the relative speeds of the first and second generator driving shafts in a predetermined synchronsis ratio. A controllable vent arrangement is provided for venting a portion of the steam flow in the primary steam line during starting operations. By virtue of these features, a speed synchronization of multiturbine sections can be obtained in an efficient and inexpensive manner without causing excessive heat rise in the turbine blades.

In a plant of a composite cycle which includes a steam turbine having a high pressure portion and a low pressure portion, a gas turbine, and a waste heat boiler having heat exchangers producing high pressure steam and low pressure steam to be fed to the steam turbine, by the use of exhaust gas from the gas turbine as a heat source; there are provided steam valves on steam passages through which steam is fed from the heat exchangers of waste heat boiler to the steam turbine; a detecting device for detecting the condition of steam flowing into the steam valve; and another detecting device for detecting the r.p.m. of the steam turbine; whereby the opening and closing of the steam valves are controlled by means of a selecting device which preferentially selects either of signals from the aforesaid detecting devices to adjust the quantity of steam to be fed to the steam turbine for controlling the steam turbine.
