A method and an apparatus for continuously manufacturing non-fired pellets, which comprise: continuously supplying green pellets containing a carbonating binder into a vertical type reactor to continuously pass the green pellets sequentially through a predrying zone, a carbonating zone and a drying zone in the vertical type reactor; blowing a predrying gas having a relative humidity of up to 70% and a temperature of from 40.degree. to 250.degree. C. into the predrying zone to predry the green pellets therein until the water content of the green pellets in the predyring zone falls within the range of from 1 to 7 wt. %; blowing a carbonating gas comprising carbon dioxide gas of from 5 to 95 vol. % and saturated steam of from 5 to 95 vol. % and having a temperature of from 30.degree. to 98.degree. C. into the carbonating zone to carbonate the carbonating binder contained in the green pellets therein; and blowing a drying gas at a temperature of from 100.degree. to 300.degree. C. into the drying zone to harden the green pellets therein, thereby continuously manufacturing non-fired pellets.

Methods of manufacturing a composite ferrite of two or more of metal oxides prepared from a chloride solution containing ions of these metals, one of the metals being zinc. The methods comprise (a) ejecting a high temperature gas to the solution or atomizing the solution and (b) supplying the atomized gas to a combustion gas containing oxygen, to evaporate moisture from mist particles of the solution in a short period of time so that the zinc chloride in the solution is not substantially evaporated and to induce a heat decomposition or chemical reaction for the remaining metal salt particles, thereby forming a composite ferrite.

C, preferably 1500.degree. C for more than 10 minutes. Coke is loaded into the furnace from an upper portion and heat treated coke is cooled and then discharged from the bottom. Inert or reducing gas may be introduced into the lower portion of the furnace and discharged from the upper portion thereby cooling heat treated coke and preheating loaded coke.

A treating furnace for manufacturing non-fired iron-bearing pellets comprising a green iron-bearing pellet inlet at one end thereof and a non-fired iron-bearing pellet outlet at the other end. Green iron-bearing pellets are continuously fed into the treating furnace through said inlet and after being heated are discharged through said outlet. The treating furnace contains at least one heating gas blowing port for blowing heating gas into the furnace and at least one heating gas discharge port for discharging said gas after it has heated the pellets. The furnace also contains a preheating zone and at least one preheating gas blowing port and at least one preheating gas discharge port to pass preheating gas through said preheating zone. The heating gas discharged from the heating gas discharge port is used as the preheating gas. The gas discharged from the heating gas discharge port is admixed with the gas discharged from the preheating gas discharge port and then the thus mixed gas is utilized as the feed preheating gas to the preheating gas blowing (inlet) port.

The green iron-bearing pellets introduced into the furnace are first pretreated by contact with the gas which had been used to heat the already preheated pellets.

A method and an apparatus for continuously manufacturing a non-sintered pellet, which comprises:continuously supplying a green pellet having a water content of from 6 to 20 wt. % into a shaft type reactor to continuously pass the green pellet sequentially through a pre-treating zone, a hydration reaction zone and a drying zone in the shaft type reactor; blowing a pre-treating gas with a relative humidity of up to 70% and at a temperature of from 65.degree. to 250.degree. C. into the pre-treating zone to pre-dry the green pellet in the pre-treating zone until the difference in the water content in the green pellet before and after the abovementioned pre-drying becomes at least 4 wt. % within the limits in which the green pellet in the pre-treating zone contains at least 2 wt. % water; blowing a gas for hydration reaction at a temperature of from 50.degree. to 100.degree. C. containing saturated steam into the hydration reaction zone to hydrate the green pellet in the zone; and, blowing a drying gas at a temperature of from 100.degree. to 300.degree. C. into the drying zone to dry the green pellet in the zone, thereby hardening the green pellet in the drying zone to continuously manufacture a non-sintered pellet.
