摘要: An apparatus is disclosed for braiding fine denier yarns to form a braided suture product which includes a frame, and a main carrier support plate supported on the frame and having a pair of undulating guide channels intersecting each other for guiding a plurality of yarn carriers. A plurality of yarn carriers are supported on the main carrier support plate, and each supports a bobbin for dispensing fine denier yarn. A guiding system is provided for directing the yarn carriers over intersecting paths corresponding to the shape of said guide channels, with a first set of the carriers being directed in a first direction and a second set of the carriers being directed in the opposite direction. A take-up system is positioned above the yarn carriers to provide reception of the yarns in a common braiding zone while the yarn carriers are directed through the intersecting paths of the guide channels to form a braided sheath from the yarns. A take-up clutch system is provided for controlling the tension of the final braided product within predetermined ranges permits formation of a braided product of predetermined appearance. A method of producing the braided product on the invention apparatus is also disclosed.

摘要: A low density bioabsorbable non-woven fabric is disclosed. The fabric preferably includes fibers of glycolide and lactide and has a density of between about 0.05 g/cu.cm and about 0.10 g/cu.cm. In one embodiment, the glycolide content of the fibers is at least about 80 mole percent, and preferably about 90 mole percent. In an alternate embodiment, the glycolide content of the fibers is less than 30 mole percent, and preferably about 20 mole percent.

摘要: A method for making a multifilament suture yarn includes jet entangling the filaments of the suture yarn prior to other operations such as twisting and braiding. A multifilament braided suture is made of air entangled suture yarns, such as by braiding. The suture may include a core constructed of entangled yarns, preferably in the form of a cabled core constructed of multiple entangled yarns plied together, the plied yarns being air entangled and twisted in a first direction. Multiple entangled plied yarns twisted in the first direction are combined and twisted in a second opposite direction to form a cabled core.
