The invention relates to a method for coding a sequence of video images comprising a cutting into zones of at least one current image of the sequence, characterized in that, for the coding of at least one target zone of said at least one current image, it comprises the steps of: determination (E2) of a set of candidate zones in previously coded and then decoded parts of images of the sequence, minimizing a prediction error calculated over the neighborhood of the target zone, formation (E3) of a set of groups of candidate zones in said set of candidate zones, as a function of a criterion of similarity between the candidate zones, identification (E6) of a best group in said set of groups, minimizing a reconstruction error with respect to the target zone, determination (E6) of an indication (n) representative of said identified best group; and coding (E7) of said indication (n).

To filter a digital signal, in which, for each sample of the signal, a plurality of context functions take account of a predetermined number of other samples of the signal: the value of a context function from the plurality of context functions for each sample to be filtered is calculated; the signal is divided into a set of sub-signals corresponding respectively to the different values of the context functions; and, for each sub-signal: an optimal filter is determined according to a first criterion that depends on the values of the sub-signal; and the optimal filter is associated with the context function corresponding to the sub-signal.Application to the coding of a digital signal representing an image.

A method for processing a digital signal comprises receiving an output encoded signal (Sd,sc) obtained from an original digital signal (Si) having an initial spatial resolution and an initial bit rate, the output encoded signal having a bitrate lower than the initial bitrate, processing the output encoded signal to obtain a source signal (Sv) having the initial spatial resolution, and dividing (E303) samples of the source signal into at least two subsets of samples, the subsets corresponding respectively to different spatial grids that are arranged so that at least some samples of one subset are interleaved spatially with at least some samples of another said subset. Further, for each said subset, the method comprises determining (E305, E309, E311), for at least one sample of the subset, at least one filter amongst a set of predetermined filters according to a first predetermined criterion and finally inserting (E310) in a side information signal information representative of the filter(s) determined for the samples of the subset concerned. The method is suitable for encoding an original digital signal into an output encoded signal and a side information signal, the original digital signal having an initial resolution and an initial bitrate.
