Abstract:
A sectional planter is provided with an interior volume defining a planter portion with a flange and a tongue and groove for positively connecting the sectional planter to at least one additional sectional planter, where the tongue and groove connection allows for easy removal of the sectional planter from the base of a tree or post after assembly. The sectional planter can hold a variety of plants, shrubs, bushes or other floral or decorative items. The sectional planter may be combined with one or more additional sectional planters to form a geometric shaped planter. The geometric shapes formed with two or more interconnected sectional planters may be a circle, an oval, a square, a star pattern, a rectangle, a triangle, a trapezoid, or a parallelogram. In at least one embodiment two or more sectional planters are combined to form to encircle a tree.
Abstract:
In one preferred form of the present invention, there is provided a rock breaker 10. The rock breaker 10 includes a body 12 having a recess 14 for receiving an impactor 16 that is adapted to rotate about an axis 18 extending longitudinally into the recess 14. The recess 14 includes a curved wall 20 extending along the recess 14. The curved wall 20 has a number of narrow elongate slit-type openings 22 each extending around the recess 14 across the curved wall 20. The slit-type openings 22 are spaced apart in a direction along the body 12 to form a series 68. The impactor 16 includes two impactor bars 28 that are each positioned in an offset position for rotating in a direction along the slit type openings 22, in a direction around the recess 14, with each impactor bar 28 extending across the slit type openings 22 in an adjacent manner.
Abstract:
In one preferred form of the present invention there is provided a clamp component 10. The component includes two portions 14 that are able to be moved relative to one another to a position in which the portions 14 receive a ball-type end 16 of a threaded shaft 18 and provide a clamping surface 20 facing away from the threaded shaft 18.
Abstract:
A sensor comprises silver nanoparticles in which substantially all of the surfaces of the silver nanoparticles are available for interaction with an analyte or for functionalization with a receptor which is capable of interacting with an analyte. Silver nanoparticles are preparated by forming the nanoparticles in the presence of a polymeric stabilizer such as PVA.
Abstract:
A switch assembly automatically turns on and off a hazard light on a motor vehicle in concert with a turn signal of the vehicle. Activating the turn signal interrupts power to the hazard light so that other vehicles are not distracted by it. The switch assembly detects activation of the turn signal and simultaneously turns off power to the hazard light. The assembly then turns on the hazard light after the turn is completed. The assembly includes a switch and a relay. The switch detects activation of the turn signal, and transmits that information to the relay. The relay interrupts power to the hazard light when the signal is activated.
Abstract:
A configuration for a SONET transport node comprises a pair of transparent mux/demuxs provided at two sites and connected over a high rate span. The T-Muxs provide continuity of all tribs and maintain a lower bit rate linear or ring system through the higher bit rate span. The lower bit rate linear or ring system operates as if it were directly connected without the higher bit rate midsection. For the forward direction of the traffic, the T-Mux comprises a multi-channel receiver for receiving the trib signals and providing for each trib signal a trib SPE and a trib OH. The trib SPEs are multiplexed into a supercarrier SPE and the trib OHs signals are processed to generate a supercarrier OH. A supercarrier transmitter maps the supercarrier SPE and the supercarrier OH into a supercarrier signal and transmits same over the high rate span. Reverse operations are effected for the reverse direction of traffic. With this invention, an entire ring system does not have to be upgraded to a higher line rate due to fiber exhaust on a single span. The invention is particularly applicable to OC-48/OC-12/OC-3 linear and ring networks and the high rate span could be an OC-192 line.
