Abstract: 461,439. Dispersing gases in liquids. DISTILLERS CO., Ltd., and LOCKEY, J. Aug. 23, 1935, No. 23698. [Class 14 (i)] A device for dispersing a gas or vapour in a liquid, particularly for application to fermenters used in the manufacture of yeast on the aeration principle, consists of a perforated hollow body, shown as comprising a conical part D and a cylindrical neck part D , which is mounted on a rotatable shaft C with its major part submerged in the liquid. Its upper end communicates with the air space above the tiquid level E. When the body is rotated rapidly, the liquid normally within the body is thrown out centrifugally through the perforations, and air is then induced into the body from the air space and subsequently forced out centrifugally into the liquid surrounding the body. The vat A containing the liquid has a jacket B, and is provided with baffles A for arresting any rotational movement of the liquid. In a modification, the hollow body is in the form of several short perforated cones extending along the shaft C. The shaft is mounted in a frame held frictionally in the vat and acting as a baffle. The cones may be of graduated sizes. Specification 455,547 is referred to.

Abstract: Continuous droplet generators and methods are provided. In one embodiment, a continuous droplet generator includes an outer housing that defines a working liquid reservoir configured to maintain a working liquid. The continuous droplet generator also includes one or more heaters configured to change the phase of the working liquid and an evaporation-condensation tube positioned at least partially within the outer housing. The evaporation-condensation tube includes a gas inlet configured to receive a particle-containing gas flow, a gas outlet configured to export generated condensed droplets, a wall, an outer wall surface configured to be in contact with the working liquid, and an inner wall surface in contact with the particle-containing gas flow. The vapor is transported to the particle-containing gas flow through the evaporation-condensation tube by diffusion and vapor pressure difference to increase a relative humidity and grow particles within the particle-containing gas flow by nuclei heterogeneous condensation.
