摘要: Disclosed are RAGE antagonist compounds that have the ability to reverse pre-existing amyloidosis. Treatment with the RAGE antagonist compounds described herein may be used to reduce plaque size and improve cognition for subjects in the later stages of Alzheimer's disease. Additionally, the RAGE antagonists described herein may be used to reduce the onset of plaque formation and thereby prevent loss of cognition and other symptoms associated with Alzheimer's Disease and other diseases of amyloid deposition.

摘要: A surgical procedure for managing postoperative pain is disclosed. More particularly, the technique involves use of intrafascial catheter introducer to thread a soaker catheter or the like through fascial sheaths of the human body (e.g., abdominal and chest walls) to relieve postoperative pain. The use of the soaker catheter in apposition to the intercostal nerves enhances the efficacy of the soaker catheter that is normally laid in the subcutaneous space. Case study results evidence the enhanced efficacy of the surgical procedure.

摘要: A surgical sponge with an integrated RFID transponder is disclosed. A laundry RFID transponder integrated between layers of the sponge provides means for surgical personnel to verify with a RFID reader that all such sponges have been removed from a patient's body prior to an incision being closed or from a body cavity without an incision. The RFID reader may also be used post closure to re-verify that no such sponges have been inadvertently closed within the patient. A system may include a storage means and associated display device to allow for easy and convenient verification that all sponges made available for a particular surgery have all been accounted for prior to the surgical incision being closed.
