    摘要: According to one aspect of the present invention, a light emitting diode (LED) structure including an active core layer and at least one substrate layer having a first refractive index, comprises a 2-dimensional photonic quasicrystal in the structure, the photonic quasicrystal comprising an array of regions having a second refractive index, the array exhibiting long range order but short range disorder. The long range order is associated with diffractive properties of the structure and gives rise to uniform-far field diffraction patterns from the LED. The present invention enjoys the benefit of improved light extraction from LEDs without undesirable far field illumination patterns.

    摘要: There is provided a non-linear optical device for enhancing the bandwidth accessible in the nonlinear generation of an optical signal. The device comprises a planar optical waveguide, the planar optical waveguide being operative to generate an optical output from an optical input having an input bandwidth by means of a non-linear optical process, the optical output having a wavelength within an accessible bandwidth, wherein the planar optical waveguide is operative to enhance the accessible bandwidth such that the ratio of the accessible bandwidth to the input bandwidth is at least 4. The device is particularly applicable to broad optical continuum generation, but may also be used in a parametric oscillator or amplifier arrangement with broad tuning range.

    摘要: Embodiments are provided to maintain templates associated with a client. New and updated templates can be provided to the client and accessed by a user. In an embodiment, a system can be configured to automatically update locally stored templates with updated templates associated with a library. The updated templates can replace or be used to update the locally stored templates and be used by an application user. In one embodiment, a client can be configured to automatically initiate an update process to retrieve and/or receive new and updated templates from an associated document library. The update process can also be used to provide additional information associated with a template, such as metadata describing aspects of an associated template.
