    摘要: A light source radiates an infrared beam that passes through a chopper, a calibration cell and the exhaust plume of a motor vehicle passing in front of the source. A photosensor assembly includes a plurality of photodetectors which are spaced closely adjacent to each other and simultaneously sense the beam after it propagates through the plume. An optical beam homogenizer or integrator disposed between the plume and the photosensor unit causes the light incident on the photodetectors to have uniform intensity. The photodetectors are sensitive to different wavelengths corresponding to spectral absorption peaks of constituents of the composition of the plume, including carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO.sub.2), hydrocarbon (HC), water vapor (H.sub.2 O) and nitric oxide (NO). A computer computes the composition of the plume as the percentages of the constituents based on the sensed transmittances of the respective wavelengths through the plume. A video camera produces a video image of the vehicle license plate, which is displayed on a video monitor and recorded on a video recorder together with the plume composition data.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for treating lesions caused by viral infections including herpes simplex. The apparatus comprises a compact, easy-to-use instrument for controllably providing heat to the lesion site both from a primary built-in heat source and from a built-in light source which functions to complement the primary heat source and also to brightly illuminate the lesion site. The instrument also includes a novel bar graph, multicolor display which provides a visual indication of the instrument power setting as well as temperature conditions at the lesion site. Additionally, the instrument provides an audio signal to the user when the proper length of treatment time has elapsed.

    摘要: An optical device assembly includes a planar optical filter and a planar sensor having an optically active area. The optical filter and the sensor are joined together with a gap therebetween by a standoff structure extending between the optical filter and the sensor. The standoff structure is positioned at a location outside of the optically active area of the planar sensor. The standoff structure includes a standoff element, a first bonding element between the standoff and the filter, and a second bonding element between the standoff and the sensor. The two bonding elements each preferably comprise a cold-weldable indium bump. If the standoff structure, the filter, or the sensor is made of a material to which indium does not readily cold weld, a bonding pad of a material such as titanium/nickel can be inserted to facilitate the cold welding.

    摘要: A thin film electrical cable 20 is disclosed having a polyimide substrate 46, a layer of titanium 48 on a lower side 50 of the substrate 46, and a plurality of gold conductors 52 on the titanium 48. The thin layers of titanium and gold are preferably sequentially deposited on a clean polyimide film by sputtering. Additional gold is electroplated and separate conductors are delineated. The use of organic adhesive materials to attach the conductors 52 to the substrate 46 is avoided.
