    摘要: A multi-cell, lead-acid electric storage battery of the wet or absorbed electrolyte type is provided. The battery comprises one or more manifolding apertures in one or more partition walls, which apertures are of a size which allows passage of gases and in wet batteries minimizes passage of electrolyte and which define one or more sets of manifolded cells; a single trapping chamber associated with each set of manifolded cells; one or more vent apertures for wet battery applications or a pressure release valve for absorbed electrolyte battery applications is disposed between each set of manifolded cells and its respective trapping chamber, which vent apertures are of a size which allows passage of gases and in wet batteries minimizes passage of electrolyte. Additionally, for wet batteries there is provided one or more drain/vent apertures between each set of manifolded cells and its respective trapping chamber, which drain apertures are of a size which allow drainage of electrolyte from the trapping chamber to the manifolded cells and minimize passage of electrolyte from the cells to the trapping chamber and a single exhaust port associated with each of said trapping chambers, which exhaust ports allow passage of gas from the trapping chambers to the ambient. Also, battery spacers are provided to make the batteries compatible with mounting devices for larger batteries, and/or to make the batteries stackable.

The battery comprises: a container; a cover; a single pair of element posts in electrical communication with electrochemical components; a single pair of terminal bushings substantially completely embedded in the cover, each of the bushings are electrically connected to one of the element posts and comprises, a main body portion, a side terminal end, which side terminal end is mounted through an opening in an angled surface of the cover, which angled surface is at an angle acute to the plane generally contiguous to the top surface of the cover, a top terminal end which is mounted through an opening in the top surface of the cover on or in the vicinity of its longitudinal centerline, an element post end, and a connecting arm extending sideways from the body portion to the side terminal end, and wherein the top terminal end, the body portion, and the element post end define a hole passing axially therethrough and adapted to receive therein one of the element posts; a pair of side terminals in electrical communication with the side terminal ends of the bushings; and a pair of top terminals in electrical communication with the top terminal ends of the bushings.

    摘要: An assembly for a recessible carrying handle is provided for a battery having a container and cover. The assembly comprises: an elongated recess in the top surface of the cover; an elongated recess in opposing side wall surfaces of the cover, which cover side recesses communicate with the ends of the cover top recess; an elongated recess in opposing side wall surfaces of the container, which container side recesses communicate with the cover side recesses; a pair of tongues projecting from the side walls of and into each container side recess; a generally U-shaped handle having two limbs connected by a cross piece; a pair of grooves in the sides of each handle limb, which grooves are adapted to slidably receive the tongues; and a pair of slots in the grooves, which slots are adapted to allow passage of the tongues in and out of the grooves;whereby the handle may be attached readily and without significant distortion to an otherwise completely assembled battery and upon attachment is slidably received in the recesses.

Additionally, for wet batteries there is provided one or more drain/vent apertures between each set of manifolded cells and its respective trapping chamber, which drain apertures are of a size which allow drainage of electrolyte from the trapping chamber to the manifolded cells and minimize passage of electrolyte from the cells to the trapping chamber and a single exhaust port associated with each of said trapping chambers, which exhaust ports allow passage of gas from the trapping chambers to the ambient. Also, battery spacers are provided to make the batteries compatible with mounting devices for larger batteries, and/or to make the batteries stackable.

The assembly comprises a pair of channels and a pair of projecting members slidably engageable with the channels, wherein(a) the channels are disposed on the battery casing and the projecting members are disposed on the battery handle, or vice versa,(b) the channels have an open end adapted to allow passage of the projecting members into and out of the interior of the channel,(c) the assembly comprises means for limiting the travel of the projecting members through the interior of the channels such that the projecting members are unable to pass through the other end of the channels, and(d) the channels and projecting members are disposed such that the handle may be attached and detached to the casing by slidably inserting and withdrawing the projecting members from the interior of the channels through its open ends and when the projecting members are disposed in the interior of the channels and the battery is lifted by said handle, the projecting members are urged against the travel limiting means.
