Described are adamantane derivatives defined according to the generic structure: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 ' is hydrogen or acetyl; R.sub.2 ' is hydrogen or lower alkyl and the dashed line is a carbon-carbon single bond or a carbon-carbon double bond as well as uses thereof for augmenting or enhancing the aroma or taste of consumable materials selected from the group consisting of perfume compositions, perfumed articles, colognes, smoking tobacco compositions, smoking tobacco articles, deodorizing articles, doedorizing compositions and malodor maskants.

Described are epoxyoctahydrodimethylacetonaphthones defined according to the generic structure: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 each represents methyl or hydrogen with the proviso that one of R.sub.3 or R.sub.4 is methyl and the other of R.sub.3 or R.sub.4 is hydrogen; and perfumery uses thereof in augmenting or enhancing the aroma of perfume compositions, colognes and perfumed articles, including solid or liquid anionic, cationic, nonionic or zwitterionic detergents, fabric softener compositions, fabric softener articles, cosmetic powders, hair preparations and perfumed polymers.

Described are 1-phenyl-1-cyano-C.sub.5 -C.sub.7 alkanes defined according to the structure: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 each represents hydrogen or methoxy with the proviso that when R.sub.1 is methoxy, R.sub.2 is hydrogen and when R.sub.2 is methoxy, R.sub.1 is hydrogen; and wherein X is C.sub.3 -C.sub.5 straight chain or branched chain alkylene and uses thereof in augmenting, enhancing or modifying perfume compositions, perfumed articles and colognes. Also described is a process for preparing such 1-phenyl-1-cyano-C.sub.5 -C.sub.7 alkanes by means of reacting benzyl cyanide with an aldehyde or ketone and then hydrogenating the resulting product using a supported palladium catalyst.

Described are 2,2,3-trimethylcyclopentenyl acetone derivatives defined according to one or a mixture of compounds having the structures: ##STR1## organoleptic uses thereof, processes for preparing same using as a starting material the compound having the structure: ##STR2## which is reacted to form the compound having the structure: ##STR3## which is further reacted to form the novel intermediate: ##STR4## which is then converted to the 2,2,3-trimethylcyclopentenyl acetone derivatives or our invention using the allylic alcohol having the structure: ##STR5## wherein R.sub.3, R.sub.4, and R.sub.5 are the same or different hydrogen or methyl; R.sub.6 represents hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, or propyl or isopropyl; x is 0, 1 or 2; R.sub.7 is methyl or ethyl; R.sub.7 ' and R.sub.7 " represent methyl or ethyl or R.sub.7 ', (CH.sub.2).sub.x and R.sub.7 " taken together represents C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 alkylene; M represents Li, Mg, X or MgX; and X represents chloro or bromo.
