    摘要: An impedance seat (10) having an impedance element (19) that can be mounted in conjunction with a seat in a ball valve (52). The impedance seat has a concave surface (16) matching the curvature of the ball (76) and a plurality of flow paths (18) formed through it. An impedance assembly can have a plurality of stacked plates (34) that define the flow paths. The impedance seat can have a full flow window (104) having a radius that matches the profile of a flow bore (86) of the ball valve in an intermediate position. The impedance seat can be easily fabricated to provide improved impedance characteristics, and can be used in an original ball valve, or in a retrofit for an existing valve.

    摘要: A technique of producing polyolefin foam is described. A two-stage process is described wherein the first stage involves expanding a preformed cylindrical tube comprising a polymer, blowing agent, cross-linking agent and blowing agent activator in an enclosed cylindrical mold. The cylindrical mold constrains the expansion of the foam without the need for hydraulic rams or similar mechanical means as are found in conventional platen presses. Following stage one, the cylindrical tubes of material are heated while unconstrained and expands symmetrically. The cylindrical tube of expanded foam material is then slit and may be cold pressed in order to form polyolefin foam blands. Variations on the cylindrical tube mold shape may be used and patterns and other features may be formed on the interior of the cylindrical mold in order to produce a product containing the imprint thereof. Polyolefin foam so produced may be used in building, packaging, clothing and similar applications.

It has two sides that slide open and shut over the top of the condoms elastic band to lock it in place on the ring.     摘要: This invention describes nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC) for use as a drug delivery excipient. NCC binds significant quantities of water soluble, ionizable drugs, e.g., tetratcycline and doxorubicin, which are released rapidly over a one day period. A surfactant such as cetyl trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) can bind to the surface of NCC and increase the zeta potential in a concentration-dependent manner from −55 to 0 mV. NCC with CTAB modified surfaces can bind significant quantities of the hydrophobic drugs such as anticancer drugs docetaxel, paclitaxel and etoposide. These drugs were released in a controlled manner over a 2-day period. The NCC-CTAB nanocomplexes were found to bind to KU-7 cells and evidence of cellular uptake was observed.

    摘要: A flexible security document is provided which contains an authentication device including: a) source of electrical potential (5), the source including a piezoelectric polymeric material including at least one terpolymer of vinylidene fluoride (VDF), trifluoroethylene (TrFE) and a halogenated ethylene based monomer containing at least one non-fluorine halogen atom, the source of electrical potential being activated by mechanical deformation; b) reporter element (3) including a material capable of switching electrically between a first state and a second state, the difference between the first state and the second state being able to be perceived by an unaided human; and c) conducting elements (8) electrically connecting the source of electrical potential and the reporter element to produce an electric circuit. The reporter element (3) may take a number of different forms, such as a light emitting device which lights up or undergoes colour change when activated by the source of electrical potential to provide an indication of authenticity. In a particularly preferred embodiment, the flexible security document is a banknote and the source of electrical potential is applied by printing.
