摘要:
A controlling method of an optical disc drive includes the following steps. After an optical disc is loaded into the optical disc drive, a start-up procedure is performed to acquire a disc parameter and a disc information of the optical disc. Then, the optical disc drive enters a ready state. If a command from the computer system is received within a predetermined time interval, the command is executed and the optical disc drive enters the ready state again. If no command is received within the predetermined time interval, the optical disc drive enters an idle state corresponding to the presence of the optical disc. Then, the disc parameter, the disc information and a power index tag are written into a non-volatile memory, and a power-interruptible event is issued to the computer system.

A method of command entry for an electronic device. First, a single button is pressed to enter the electronic device into a multi-function entry state, indicated by a first light status. The button is pressed again within a first predetermined period after entering the multi-function entry state, corresponding to one command. The light indicator displays a second light status corresponding to the command. Finally, the button is pressed again to confirm the command within a second predetermined period.

A method is disclosed for adjusting the rotational speed of a disk drive. According to the method, the proportion of time which the disc drive is reading data from the disc during a unit time T is calculated. Then, the increase of the rotational speed of the motor is avoided if the error rate Ek that a disc drive reads data during each of r consecutive units of time periods T is not less than a criterion Q. Otherwise, the rotational speed of the motor of the disc drive is increased if the proportion of time Pk that the disc drive spends reading data from the disc is greater than a threshold H during each of m consecutive units of time period T, and the rotational speed of the motor of the disc drive is decreased if the Pk is less than a threshold L during each of n consecutive units of time periods T.

A method for controlling the rotational speed of a disk player includes first calculating the proportion of time which the disk player is reading data from the disk during a unit time T. Thereafter, the method increases the rotational speed of the disk player if the proportion of time that the disk player spends reading data from the disk is greater than a first threshold during each of m consecutive units of time T, and decreases the rotational speed of the disk player if the proportion of time that the disk player spends reading data from the disk is less than a second threshold during each of n consecutive units of time T.

A method for storage space allocation is disclosed. According to the present invention, the video data and the still picture data are recorded in a common storage area on a re-writable disc. When the still picture data is to be stored, it is recorded from the high-address end of the common storage area. On the other hand, when the video data is to be stored, it is recorded from the low-address end of the common area.

A method is disclosed for adjusting the rotational speed of a disk player based on a calculated variable. The method increases the rotational speed of the disk player when the calculated variable is greater than a first threshold and decreases the rotational speed of the disk player when the calculated variable is less than a second threshold.
