摘要: The present invention relates to a device for penetrating human nails as a part of treatment for Onychomycosis, commonly known as fungal nail. The device comprises a reusable electromechanical system and a single use cutting component. The electromechanical system incorporates an electrical motor and drive train to advance the cutting component through the nail. The electromechanical system also incorporates sensors for measuring the cutting resistance for the purpose of preventing the cutting device from overrunning into the nail bed. The device can be used to penetrate the nail in a controlled manner which will create a portal through the nail without penetrating the nail bed below the nail.

摘要: The present invention relates to footwear and in particular, but not necessarily restricted thereto, relates to footwear for those with diabetes and, in particular, with ulcers of the sole. The present invention seeks to address some of the problems encountered by prior art limb compression devices and methods. In particular the present invention seeks to provide a boot which can stimulate blood flow. A further object to the invention is to provide a boot with a sole which is adaptable to conform with various shapes and conditions of human feet. The present invention also seeks to provide a new type of footwear that has a therapeutic benefit for diabetic patients with circulatory problems in their foot, and also enables the technique of “off loading” the foot to assist in the healing of any wounds present. The present invention relates to a method for aiding arterial and venous flow from the limb of an ambulatory patient comprising the step of applying pressure to one or more areas of the soft tissue of an underside portion of the foot.

摘要: Modulators of phosphatidic acid phosphatase type 2C and other polypeptides, highly expressed in cancers as compared to normal tissues, are provided for treatment of proliferative disorders such as cancer. A method is provided for detecting polypeptides that are overexpressed in cancer, whereby antibodies or binding proteins that specifically recognize these molecules are contacted with a patient's bodily fluid. The method provides an early diagnosis of cancer, and can detect recurrence and metastasis following an initial diagnosis. The invention further provides methods of treating cancer with therapeutic agents directed toward these protein and peptide biomarkers.

摘要: Ultrasound imaging adapts as a function of a coherence factor. Various beamforming, image forming or image processing parameters are varied as a function of a coherence factor to improve detail resolution, contrast resolution, dynamic range or SNR. For example, a beamforming parameter such as the transmit or receive aperture size, apodization type or delay is selected to provide maximum coherence. Alternatively or additionally, an image forming parameter, such as the number of beams for coherent synthesis or incoherent compounding, is set as a function of the coherence factor. Alternatively or additionally an image processing parameter such as the dynamic range, linear or nonlinear video filter and/or linear or nonlinear map may also adapt as a function of the coherence factor.

摘要: A dynamically tuned gyroscope having a single gimbal has torsion flexures with torsional stiffnesses such that, at its tuned speed, the gyroscope is insensitive to angular vibration at a frequency of twice the rotor rotational speed. The drive shaft is connected to a first torsion flexure having an effective torsional stiffness K.sub.1 of zero, K.sub.1 being made zero by the use of ball races or pivots, by known mechanical methods such as over-center or toggle spring action, or by the use of magnetic or electrostatic systems. The rotor is connected to a second torsion flexure which is orthogonal to the first flexure. The second torsion flexure has a torsional stiffness K.sub.2 equal to 4w.sup.2 r.sub.3.sup.2 m.sub.3 where w is the tuned rotor speed, m.sub.3 is the component mass of a gimbal, on which the torsion flexures are mounted, on an axis through the center of gravity of the gimbal and normal to the plane of the gimbal, and r.sub.3 is the distance of the component mass m.sub.3 from the center of gravity of the gimbal.
