    摘要: A circuit breaker for the protection of electrical devices connected thereto provides immediate detection of power failure even if such failure occurs during the times of line voltage axis crossings. This is accomplished by providing and monitoring the amplitude of a synthesized waveform representing a full-wave rectified replica of the line voltage, combined with a 90.degree. phase-shifted full-wave rectified replica of the line voltage waveform. The composite waveform has a peak-to-peak excursion of approximately 20% about a DC average without nulls. The phase-shifted waveform replicas are produced by a phase shift network configured to provide a strong differentiating function, thereby causing the phase-shifted replicas to reflect virtually instantaneously failure of the power line voltage, and in particular failure in the vicinity of an axis crossing, by an immediate change in amplitude. Transient overvoltages and undervoltages are similarly reflected. Suitable comparators are used to detect excursions beyond preset limits to produce a control signal which is used to actuate the circuit breaker to a power-off condition.

    摘要: A control circuit for a power threshold switch, like a power triac, to be connected in series with a load device, at a situs where only one AC power conductor and a conductor extending to the load device is available, is energized from a DC power supply energized from these conductors. The power supply includes a rectifier connected in series with an energy storage means, such as a capacitor, the terminals of which constitute the DC output terminal of the DC power supply, an impedance of much greater resistance than that of the load device and through which the capacitor is charged when the triac is in its non-conductive mode, and preferably a low power control triac shunting the high impedance and triggered momentarily into conduction each half cycle as the applied AC voltage goes through zero when the power triac is to be in its conductive mode, to effect charging of said energy storage means and subsequently the triggering of said power threshold switch into conduction.

    摘要: A battery operated standby inverter power supply uses an electromechanical relay switching network to connect and disconnect line power between input and output terminals. An overcurrent relay pulser rapidly opens the switching system relay contacts upon transition to battery mode, and a breakover diode network accelerates field collapse in the relay coil attendant to reversion of the relay to its normally closed condition attendant to each battery to line transition. A fault detector establishes acceptable line voltage thresholds, the exceeding of either of which triggers operation from line to battery mode. These triggering thresholds are automatically pulled closer together during initial system startup. During system startup and attendant to each battery-to-line transition, the fault detector is momentarily latched to indicate acceptable line voltage conditions, thereby removing its susceptibility to transient retriggering. During start-up mode a low-current transformerless power supply connected to the power line input terminals charges a storage capacitor sufficiently to power the fault detector through a single interrogation cycle, to actuate the switching circuitry to line mode operation if proper line voltage conditions are sensed. Collapse of this capacitor voltage during this operation terminates the interrogation cycle, a new cycle begins when the capacitor has been suitably charged. An overload detector senses the load current in line mode and prevents actuation to battery mode if the load connected to the power supply output exceeds the rated current value of the inverter.

    摘要: One form of the timer is designed to be mounted over and behind a conventional wall switch cover plate and includes a two position timer condition-setting arm, a rotatable and depressible time setting dial knob and an indicator on the front of the cover plate. When the arm is moved to a timer-on position, the indicator flashes to indicate that timer programming is needed. This may be achieved in real time over the first twenty-four hours after a 30 minute play period by depressing the knob acting as an on and off power switch control push button to turn the light circuit on and off in a normal manner. Fast normal programming is achieved by rotating the knob to various time settings and depressing the knob to set ON or OFF markers in timer memory. A full twenty-four hour programming is completed by either completing a full rotation of the knob over the full twenty-four hour time settings, with at least one ON and one OFF depression, or by a similar pair of knob depressions without such a full rotation, OFF markers then being automatically set by the timer to complete the timer programming. The indicator comes steady-on to indicate that the timer is fully programmed and in an automatic mode of operation. The automatic operation is temporarily overridden by depression of the knob or permanently overridden by a simple distinctive speed or time duration depression of the knob.
