摘要: A modular, reusable installation tool for clamping laid-together portions of cross-linked, dimensionally heat unstable polymeric material along a to-be-formed bond line during the application of heat from an external source to form a bond between clamped portions of the material. The tool comprises an assembly of hand-operated clip modules which are threaded longitudinally on a cable to facilitate their rapid one-hand installation and removal along a bond line. An improved modular clip is disclosed which incorporates a pair of bond line gripping flanges attached to a pair of ventilated cooperating jaw plates.

摘要: A card cage for housing a plurality of circuit boards and passive optical fiber couplers contains a tray for storing express optical fibers or express optical fiber tubes not to be coupled within the card cage but rather expressly routed through a distribution point accommodating the card cage. The tray has a flexible hinge thereon and means for keeping the tray passively deflected away from the optical couplers for facilitating insertion and removal of optical fibers into and from the couplers. A card cage housing snap fits to a card cage base without requiring screws or other physically detachable elements. The housing also includes a plurality of flexible deflectable clips integrally molded as part of the card cage housing which normally keep the circuit cards or boards within the card cage housing but which are deflectable so as to allow the boards to be slideably inserted and removed from channels within the housing for guiding the boards. The card cage further includes a backplane from which a plurality of test pins extend externally from the card cage so as to allow an electrical integrity of the card cage to be easily tested.

摘要: A rigid but flexible bondbar interconnects first and second electrical cable ends in a vicinity of a splice region thereof, the bondbar being shaped and constructed such that it is substantially rigid when exposed to axial tensile loads below a first value and is irreversibly bent when subjected to axial tensile loads above the first value, an overall flex length of the bondbar being such that both of the cable ends are prevented from being pulled out of the cable repair region.

摘要: An optical fiber waveguide tap handling tray is provided for use with a cable containing a plurality of optical fiber waveguides which are separated from the cable and exposed in a section thereof. The tap handling tray comprises a frame, a clamp for clamping the cable to the frame adjacent the section thereof so that the exposed optical fiber waveguides are thereupon physically secured to and contained within the frame, at least one optical tap secured to the frame for engaging and bending at least one of the plurality of optical fiber waveguides against an optical coupling medium having an index of refraction selected to match the index of refraction of the optical fiber so that light energy may pass through a side of the optical fiber and through the optical coupling medium, and wherein the optical tap defines an obtuse guiding angle arranged to lie in a path with which the fiber may freely be aligned within the frame after the cable has been clamped thereto. Taps having differing obtuse guiding angles may be selectively installed by the craftsman within the tray in order to select a desired amount of light energy interchange at the tap field location.

摘要: A cable block for telecommunications cable includes first and second half shell members which together form a substantially cylindrical stepped longitudinal bore therethrough, portions of the bore being sealingly engaged against progressive stripped outer parts of a stripped part of the cable so as to sealingly engage against each intermediate layer thereof which could form a water channel between its adjacent cable layer. Metal pins are also provided which extend into the channel and electrically connect to a ground shield of the cable for dissipating electrical currents during current surges as can occur when lightening strikes. The cable block is useable for terminating an end of a cable of an intermediate section thereof at which access to the telecommunications conduction media is required without breaking the conduction media.

摘要: An assembly capable of enclosing and sealing an intermediate section of an optical fiber includes a plurality of sealing mechanisms arranged such that the assembly can be entered to gain access to electronic components for servicing without affecting an environment occupied by optical fiber broken out of an optical fiber cable. Accordingly, physical integrity of the exposed fiber, and its associated connectors and splices, is not compromised. The assembly further includes a plurality of card cages, each of which has its own integral backplane having socket connectors which allow for connection to an adjacent card cage backplane within the assembly. During initial deployment of the assembly where less than all card cages for maximum capacity are initially required to be deployed, segmenting the backplane reduces the first installed cost of the assembly. Finally, multiple alarms are provided for the assembly to alert a central office that a cover of the assembly has been removed and a humidity level within a vicinity of the broken out fiber cable exceeds a predetermined level.

摘要: A telecommunications closure (1) includes a pressure clamp (21) for sealingly clamping mating parts (47, 48) of the closure together so as to form a water tight seal. The clamp member requires no tools during installation and creates no uncertainty as to the generation of appropriate clamp pressure on a sealing O-ring when installed. The pressure clamp includes an over-center latch which is rotatable between a first unlatched position and a second latched position, a clamping pressure generated by the latch increasing to a maximum value as the rotatable latch is moved from its first position to an intermediate position between the first and second positions and then decreases from this maximum value as the latch is moved from the intermediate position to the second position so as to generate a predetermined appropriate clamping pressure when in its second position so as to appropriately compress the O-ring disposed within a groove between the closure parts at their mating area.
