Abstract:
Endohedral metallofullerene compounds, which in water has a relaxivity of about 30 mM−1 S−1 to about 300 mM−1 S−1 and forms a dispersion in water with entities having an average hydrodynamic radius of less than about 20 nm.
Abstract:
Described herein are methods for treating inflammatory disorders. The methods comprise administering to a subject in need thereof a therapeutically effective amount of a synthetically modified fullerene.
Abstract:
A dermatological treatment method includes directing laser energy having a wavelength of 2.79 μm onto skin. According to disclosed methods, the energy can function to ablate a first portion of epidermal tissue, coagulate an underlying second portion of epidermal tissue, and promote collagen formation in tissue of the underlying dermis. In an exemplary treatment apparatus, a laser using a YSGG gain medium is mounted in a handpiece. The handpiece may include a two-axis scanner to allow for uniform scanning of the energy over the tissue surface.
Abstract:
A high-performance spare disk pool is created as a logical construct for provisioning and managing striped hot spares. Two or more drives (nonvolatile mass storage devices) are logically grouped together to allow the input/output (I/O) write bandwidth during RAID reconstruction to be increased over that of a single drive. The reconstructed data can be written to the spare disk pool in a striped manner. After the reconstruction is complete, a background process can be executed to copy the reconstructed data on the spare disk pool back to a single physical spare disk drive with minimal performance impact.
Abstract:
A fluorescence concentrator system that provides for high brightness light source. The system can include a host doped with fluorescent material, which is optically pumped by an adjacent illumination source. The fluorescence concentrator captures a portion of the isotropically emitted fluorescent light and guides it to an output surface. The fluorescent energy emerging the output surface provides a high brightness light source suitable for a number of applications. For example, the fluorescence concentrator system can be used as the light source in a medical apparatus suitable for various aesthetic procedures. Further aspects of the fluorescent concentrator system can include providing for controlling the illumination source to output pumping energy suitable for high energy applications.
Abstract:
A method for provisioning a blade server is provided. The method includes creating a server boot image for a blade server, where the boot image includes an operating system image created from a donor server. Then, the method includes inserting the blade server into a chassis of an enclosure that is capable of receiving multiple blade servers. Then, staring the blade server from a pre-boot execution environment (PXE). The PXE loading an image that prompts a user to install a new operating system from a pre-existing target computer of the enclosure. The method then installs the new operating system. The installing includes creation of a new iSCSI target for the inserted blade server, and partitioning of the iSCSI target. The also includes restarting the inserted blade server. The restarting is configured to boot using the iSCSI target of the inserted blade server, so that the inserted blade server becomes a provisioned blade server. The provisioning is accomplished without a hardware iSCSI initiator for an iSCSI boot.
Abstract:
Methods to elevate progenitor and stem cell counts in animal subjects using compounds which bind to the chemokine receptor CXCR4 are disclosed. Preferred embodiments of such compounds are of the formula Z-linker-Z′ (1) or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof wherein Z is a cyclic polyamine containing 9-32 ring members of which 3-8 are nitrogen atoms, said nitrogen atoms separated from each other by at least 2 carbon atoms, and wherein said heterocycle may optionally contain additional heteroatoms besides nitrogen and/or may be fused to an additional ring system; or Z is of the formula wherein A comprises a monocyclic or bicyclic fused ring system containing at least one N and B is H or an organic moiety of 1-20 atoms, Z′ may be embodied in a form as defined by Z above, or alternatively may be of the formula —N(R)—(CR2)n—X wherein each R is independently H or straight, branched or cyclic alkyl (1-6C), n is 1 or 2, and X is an aromatic ring, including heteroaromatic rings, or is a mercaptan; “linker” represents a bond, alkylene (1-6C) or may comprise aryl, fused aryl, oxygen atoms contained in an alkylene chain, or may contain keto groups or nitrogen or sulfur atoms.

Abstract:
The invention comprises a system and method for treating an exposed tissue of a patient with a light energy. A plurality of light emitting devices are optically coupled with a patients tissue, and apply light treatments to the tissue. A driver circuit and a controller operate to drive the light emitting devices to output different intensities of light treatment to different sub-areas of the tissue being treated.
