    摘要： A process for the preparation of alkylphenols of the formula I ##STR1## in which R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4, and R.sup.5 stand for hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl, by reaction of an alkylcyclohex-2-en-1-one of the formula II ##STR2## in which R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4, and R.sup.5 have the aforementioned meanings, at temperatures of from 200.degree. to 400.degree. C. and pressures ranging from 0.01 to 50 bar in the presence of palladium-on-.alpha.-Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 catalysts, wherein the catalyst used has a specific surface area (BET) of from 1 to 10 m.sup.2 /g, a pore diameter of from 5 nm to 300 .mu.m and a pore volume of from 0.1 to 0.5 cm.sup.3 /g, from 80 to 100% of the pores having a diameter of from 40 to 400 nm, and also novel palladium-on-.alpha.-Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 catalysts as obtained from a fine-grained alumina powder by steps of molding, pyrolysis and calcination.

    摘要： Bis-epoxy-dialkoxy-alkanes are valuable intermediates for the preparation of the sought-after aromatic 2,5-dimethyl-4-hydroxy-2,3-dihydrofuran-3-one. The novel bis-epoxy-dialkoxy-alkanes are obtained by reacting the corresponding .alpha.,.alpha.'-dihalo-1,2-diketones with an alkali metal hydroxide or an alkali metal alkoxide and an alkanol at from -20.degree. to +100.degree. C. To prepare the 2,5-dialkyl-4-hydroxy-2,3-dihydro-furan-3-ones, which are valuable aromatics, the novel bis-epoxy-dialkoxy-alkanes are heated with strong mineral acids or strong organic acids at from 60.degree. to 120.degree. C.

    摘要： The invention provides a container for waste materia, particularly but not exclusively for paper waste, comprising, a casing forming a container for waste material having structure defining an opening for entry to the container, a lid movably mounted on the casing adjacent the opening for movement between an open position allowing waste to be put into the container opening, and a closed position closing the opening of the container, the lid being formed so that in its closed position it extends into the container beyond the extremity of said container structure to occupy a volume within the container at least equal to that of an item of waste for which the container is intended, and means for releasably retaining the lid in its closed position, whereby each time waste is inserted through the opening and the lid closed, the waste in the container is progressively compressed and a space is created for the reception of further waste when the lid is next opened.

Rotation of the lever in a first direction causes a trigger/rocker element to be placed in a cocked position in which actuating springs are tensioned, which subsequent rotation of the lever causes the trigger to return to a rest position, the spring energy being directed to actuate a spray valve. A following rotation of the lever in the first direction reloads the mechanism for the next spray.
