The invention relates to an arithmetic encoding by bit planes (MSB, . . . , LSB), that comprises using tables of probability to have a 0 or 1 bit for encoding each bit plane. According to an embodiment of the invention, the probability tables are calculated dynamically for each signal frame based on a probability density model (Mod) corresponding to the distribution (H) of the signal (X) on each frame.

The disclosure relates to a method for estimating the number of leader vectors with norm lp equal to rδp,d, of dimension d, having co-ordinates which are lower than, or equal to k. The method is characterized in that r p delta, d is determined by the sum of the results of a function T(Xi) for i varying between 1 and d, the function T(Xi) providing, for at least some of the leader vectors, the result of the division of the co-ordinate Xi raised to the power p by a delta precision factor, the result of the division being rounded to the nearest whole number. The method does not comprise a step of determining leader vectors.

The invention concerns a method of converting raw multidimensional digital data corresponding to points making up a 2D or 3D image of unknown size and an associated system. The method comprises: the sizing a multidimensional window for traversing of said image, the said sizing depending on the size of a buffer; the traversing the said image comprising the movement of the said window in the image along the axes of the image; at each position of the said window in the image: the step of acquisition and loading, in the said buffer, of the data of the part of the image defined by the window; the conversion by calculation of the multidimensional wavelet transform of the said loaded part by means of at least one compact support filter for generating low- and high-frequency coefficients; the saving of the said coefficients generated. Application to wavelet transformation synchronously with the acquisition of medical or seismic images.

An encoding device and method are provided for encoding at least one image split into partitions. The method implements, for a current partition to be encoded, steps of: selecting at least one causal partition already encoded and then decoded; calculating at least one optimal encoding parameter associated with the selected causal partition, according to a predetermined criterion of encoding performance, by comparing a plurality of encoding parameters applied to the selected causal partition; and encoding the current partition by using the calculated optimum encoding parameter.
