摘要: The present invention provides a method, system, and an apparatus for detecting anomalies in a wooden member. The apparatus includes a first roller device comprising a first array of transducers, and a second roller device comprising a second array of transducers. A first transducer in the first array of transducers communicates with more than one transducer in the second array of transducers. The apparatus may be designed such that the wooden member may pass between the first roller device and the second roller device. In addition, the first array of transducers and the second array of transducers maintain an orientation perpendicular to the moving direction of the wooden member as the first roller device and the second roller device roll along the wooden member. Each of the transducers operate in an ultrasonic frequency range. Also, each transducer in the first array of transducers is acoustically isolated from each other transducer.

摘要: The invention describes a method and system for detecting anomalies in a material. The method comprises the steps of transmitting waves through the object, receiving the waves after passage through the object, determining more than one reference characteristic, measuring more than one characteristic of the received wave, comparing a first reference characteristic with a first characteristic of the received wave to create a first factor, comparing a second reference characteristic with a second characteristic of the received wave to create a second factor, combining the first factor with the second factor to create a defect index, and identifying a location of one or more anomalies in the object using the defect index. The step of determining the reference characteristics may comprise transmitting another wave of known characteristics through a material free of anomalies to produce a standard wave, and measuring one or more characteristics of the standard wave. Alternatively, the step of determining the reference characteristics may comprise calculating the reference characteristics from known values of the transmitted wave. The method may further comprise the steps of moving the object such that another portion of the object may be interrogated by the waves. The reference characteristics may then be stored in a computer for further comparison with other received waves. Also, the method may further comprise outputting the locations of the identified anomalies to a grading apparatus for grading the object, or to a device that cuts the object.

摘要: An ultrasonic measuring apparatus and method to accurately determine the depth of an overlaying backfat on an animal without incurring any damage to the animal. The apparatus employs a reverse time analysis approach in which a pulse generator sends a preselected ultrasonic input signal by way of a piezoelectric transducer through the outer skin and successively through each one of the animal's fat layer interfaces to a preselected distance within the loin portion of the animal. This reverse time approach then analyzes the resulting echo signal produced by the input signal sequentially in a direction from this loin portion toward the outer fat layers and the first strong signal within a specified range, which depends on the species, breed, age or weight of the animal to be measured, is taken as the bottom most fat-loin transition. A microprocessor is employed to measure and analyze the amplitude and contour of this signal in a direction toward the loin until it reaches a fixed point that is a prescribed percentage of the peak value of the amplitude of this signal the magnitude of which depends on the type of animal under measurement. The value derived in this manner is an accurate measurement of the depth of overlaying backfat and is automatically displayed in digital form on a screen.

摘要: Described are embodiments that employ ultrasonic energy to selectively lyse larger adipose cells in a suspension containing adipose cells of different sizes resulting in a suspension in which the only viable cells are the small adipose cells and stem cells. Embodiments provide for generating an acoustic standing wave field of sufficient intensity and proper geometry, that high shear stress is induced on the cell membranes of cells larger than a predetermined size. The remaining small adipose cells can be physically separated from the suspension after the suspension is subjected to the acoustic standing wave field.

摘要: Described are embodiments of a canister, system, and method of filtering fat. Embodiments include a sidewall that defines a volume, a filter with a screen, a first port, a second port, and at least one vane which allows for manual agitation of lipoaspirate within the volume. The first port is used to draw fluid from below the filter, forcing excess fluid in the lipoaspirate to be quickly extracted. The vane allows the lipoaspirate to be repeatedly drawn over the filter to aide in removing of liquids from fat in the lipoaspirate. The treated fat may then be removed from the volume through an outlet port and reinjected into a patient.
