Abstract:
A crankcase for a locomotive air compressor including a body defining an interior space, a port in fluid communication with the interior space of the body, a valve receiving portion adjacent to and surrounding the port, and an oil drain valve engaged with the valve receiving portion and having a flow passageway in fluid communication with the port. The oil drain valve has an open position and a closed position, such that the oil drain valve in the open position allows oil to flow from the interior space of the body through the flow passageway, and the oil drain valve in the closed position prevents the flow of oil from the interior space of the body through the flow passageway. A method for installing a locomotive air compressor having the crankcase and oil drain valve is also disclosed.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a brake valve handle assembly for use in a brake valve of a railway braking system. The handle assembly comprises a handle for manually adjusting such brake valve to various positions and having a cavity with a predetermined shape and a predetermined width formed in the handle at least adjacent a top surface thereof that is disposed adjacent a slot formed in a housing of such brake valve. The handle assembly further includes a wear pad mounted in the cavity of the handle and a means for securing the wear pad to the handle.
Abstract:
A casing assembly of a desiccant housing houses desiccant in an air dryer system. The casing assembly includes a casing portion, a retainer, two porous plates, and a mechanism for compacting the desiccant. The casing portion defines a channel between two sleeves that channels moisture-bearing air from an inlet of a head end out a tail end of the casing portion. An inner sleeve defines a flow chamber between the ends. The head end features an inner seat face that seals against an inner sealing flange of a main portion of the housing. The head end features an outer seat face that connects to an outer sealing flange of the main portion. The inlet communicates with a supply port of the main portion from which the moisture-bearing air is received during a drying mode of operation of the system. An outlet of the head end communicates with a delivery port of the main portion out of which dried air is directed during the drying mode. The retainer affixes to the inner sleeve within the flow chamber at the head end. One plate abuts an interior side of the retainer within the flow chamber. The other plate is slidably disposed within the flow chamber near the tail end. The compacting means connects to an inner face of the tail end and abuts the other plate thereby compacting the desiccant between the porous plates. The tail end features an outer seat face that connects to a cover portion of the housing.
Abstract:
A gas drying canister housing for a desiccant canister in a gas dryer system includes a main portion having an upper base and a lower portion having a lower base. A canister bore is defined between the upper and lower bases when the main and lower portions are fastened to each other. The main portion defines a supply port through which a stream of moisture-bearing gas is directed into the housing for passage through the desiccant canister during a drying mode of operation of the gas dryer system. The main portion also defines a delivery port through which a stream of dried gas is directed from the housing during the drying mode. The lower portion defines a purge port through the lower base through which a stream of remoisturized gas is expelled from the housing during a purge mode of operation of the gas dryer system. The upper base of the main portion features a sealing flange against which an outer rim portion of a top of the desiccant canister is seatable so as to make an air tight seal therebetween. The gas drying canister housing further includes a mechanism for aligning and securably retaining the desiccant canister within the housing such that when the desiccant canister is so aligned and securably retained the top of the desiccant canister aligns with and seals against the sealing flange and communication between the supply and delivery ports of the housing is possible only through the desiccant canister.
Abstract:
A water over air intercooler for use in a reciprocating air compressor includes a central core unit having an interior which contains a plurality of air passage tubes, a cooling water inlet and at least one cooling water outlet. A first manifold has at least one air inlet and is in communication with the plurality of air passage tubes so as to receive air from the at least one air inlet and direct the air to the plurality of air passage tubes. A second manifold has an air outlet and is in communication with the plurality of air passage tubes so as to receive air from the plurality of finned air passage tubes and direct the air to the at least one air outlet. The central core unit, the first manifold and the second manifold are integrally connected by welding to form a single piece.
Abstract:
In combination with a railway locomotive brake valve which has an exhaust valve assembly, a spring housing and a range spring, there is a device for providing enhanced damping capabilities. The device minimizes spring oscillation during operation of the locomotive brake valve.
Abstract:
