Abstract:
The invention is a self-venting blood collection needle assembly for the extraction of at least one fluid sample into an evacuated container for laboratory testing, this blood collection needle assembly providing a clear or translucent flashback chamber for blood to flow into, for visualization by the user to confirm successful vein entry. The self-venting mechanism permits escape of air during use, and which, typically, also prevents an outflow of fluid, such as blood. Thus, air under venous pressure will be allowed to escape from the blood collection needle assembly until blood reaches the venting mechanism.
Abstract:
The present invention is a container assembly that includes an inner tube formed from a plastic that is substantially inert to bodily fluids and an outer tube that is formed from a different plastic. Collectively, the container assembly is useful for providing an effective barrier against gas and water permeability in the assembly and for extending the shelf-life of the container assembly, especially when used for blood collection. The inner container is spaced from the outer container at most locations. However, the inner container includes an enlarged top configured to engage the outer container. The enlarged top has a roughened outer surface to permit an escape of air from the space between the containers.

Collectively, the container assembly is useful for providing an effective barrier against gas and water permeability in the assembly and for extending the shelf-life of the container assembly, especially when used for blood collection. The outer surface of the inner tube and/or the inner surface of the outer tube are provided with a matte finish that forms an array of peaks and valleys. The valleys form circuitous paths that accommodate a flow of air to facilitate insertion of the inner tube into the outer tube. The circuitous paths also allow air to vent during processing to low pressure.
Abstract:
A collection container for collecting biological fluid specimens having an integral fill-line indicator which corresponds to a desired specimen volume is disclosed. The integral fill-line indicator may comprise a ridge that is raised from the surface of the collection container. The integral fill-line indicator may also be altered by surface modification to impart a distinct visual appearance and/or texture. The collection container may have a single or a plurality of integral fill-line indicators which correspond to a desired specimen volume range. A method of manufacturing a collection container having an integral fill-line indicator is also disclosed.
Abstract:
The blood collection set includes an IV needle assembly, a length of flexible plastic tubing extending from the IV needle assembly and a non-patient needle assembly. The set is formed with a venting mechanism that permits an outflow of air, while blocking an outflow of blood or other fluids. Thus, the venting mechanism enables air that had existed in interior portions of the blood collection set to be vented allowing for greater flash visualization on venous entry, and avoids the need to employ a discard tube.
Abstract:
A method as well as a device are provided for determining the residual travel duration of a submarine, with which firstly for at least one certain travel situation a reference journey is carried out with which the power consumption of the submarine is detected as stored as a dependent-dependent consumption profile. Later, for the same travel situation, the residual travel duration or a residual capacity of a battery given a predefined travel duration is determined on the basis of the stored consumption profile and the current battery data.

Abstract:
A tube assembly includes an inner tube telescoped into an outer tube. The inner tube is dimensioned to define a substantially annular space between the inner and outer tubes. Portions of the inner tube near its open top are configured to permit venting as the inner tube is inserted into the open top. However, the vent is closed during insertion of a closure into the tube assembly or prior to inserting a closure into the tube assembly.
