    摘要: A display unit comprising electro-wetting pixels (1300) is provided. The inventive pixels (1300) provide bistable or multi-stable pixel states and thus facilitates passive matrix addressing. For this purpose an additional electrode (1305) is arranged for each multi-stable state. Consequently, each pixel comprises one counter electrode (1306) and at least one pair of address and retain electrodes (1304, 1305). In order to activate a pixel, an address potential is applied to the address and retain electrodes (1304, 1305) in relation to the counter electrode (1306), and in order to deactivate a pixel the potential is removed. In order to retain a current pixel state a retain potential is applied to only the retain electrode (1305) in relation to the counter electrode (1306); the current pixel state, be it active or passive, will then be preserved and the retain potential configuration thus provides a bistable pixel state.

The electron gun comprising a pre-focusing part (11), a main lens part (12) and between the pre-focusing part and the main lens part an intermediate electrode (23, G3, G3B) and a means for reducing ion cathode damage by ions (30) generated in or near the intermediate electrode. The electron gun (5) is provided with a means (41, 42, 51, 54) for generating inside the intermediate electrode (G3, G3B) an electrical field that comprises on a beam axis a component perpendicular to the beam axis. This leads the ions away from the electron beam and reduced the damage to the cathode in an efficient manner.

The electron beam (EB) is extractable from the channel (10), after which the beam (EB) impinges on the display screen (40). Electrode means (11, 12, 13) defining an electric potential in the channel (10) are provided for guiding and extracting the electron beam (EB). The electrode means (11, 12, 13) are arranged in such a way that in the channel (10), the electron beam (EB) is focused in a transverse direction being perpendicular to the channel (10) and parallel to the display screen (40). Thus, the electron transmission of the beam guiding channel (10) can be particularly high.

    摘要: The invention relates to an electrostatic deflection system for deflecting an electron beam (132), and to a matrix display device provided with such an electrostatic deflection system. The deflection system has deflectors (112, 114) for the horizontal and vertical directions, and a focus electrode (110).
