Abstract: A front body structure of a vehicle, in which a power plant is installed, includes a reinforcement secured to a mounting portion of a wheel housing located where an engine mounting bracket is attached. The front body structure also includes another reinforcement, for connecting the reinforcement to a suspension tower, which connects the reinforcement to the wheel housing. The other reinforcement is smaller in plate thickness than the reinforcement so as to absorb impact force applied to the front body during a front end collision. A front frame reinforcement is secured to a front side frame so as to reinforce a portion of the front side frame at a location in which a cut-away portion is formed so as to compensate for a decrease in structural strength of the front side frame. A connecting member connects the power-plant to a rigid structural member so as to suppress a movement of the power-plant during a front end collision.

Abstract: A blow formed, one-piece, hollow bumper includes a bumper body member, and a reinforcing frame member for connection with the vehicle frame. The frame member projects into the hollow inside of the body member from the backside of the body member. The frame member is formed in one piece with the body member attached to a vehicle frame attachment portion of the body member. In one embodiment, the frame member is closed off with a metallic plate member so as to form a box cross section. A method of making the bumper is also disclosed and includes the steps of setting the frame member in a mold and blow forming a bumper member integral with the frame.

Abstract: A rear body structure of a vehicle body has a crushable reinforcement disposed inside a rear fender panel and extending in a lengthwise direction for structurally reinforcing a rear body portion of the vertical body. The crushable reinforcement is controlled so as to crush in an intended pattern during a rear-end collision. Consequently, the impact energy generated during the rear-end collision and applied to the automotive vehicle body is absorbed.

Abstract: A steering wheel structure includes a steering wheel ring, a first spoke extending downward from a steering shaft and carrying the steering wheel ring on the steering shaft and, an air bag case disposed on a tip end portion of the steering shaft. An air bag received in the air bag is case in a folded state and an inflator is provided for inflating the air bag with gas. Abstract: In an automotive rear body structure, a pair of rear frames extend generally longitudinally of the vehicle body on respective sides thereof and have respective generally rearwardly upwardly extending kick-up portions. A rear suspension cross member extends generally transversely of the vehicle body at a location rearwardly of the kick-up portions. Rearwardly of the rear suspension cross member and in the proximity of the rear frames is disposed one or two silencers. Forwardly of the rear suspension cross member is disposed a fuel tank. A plurality of generally vertically extending notches are formed on those portions of side walls of the rear frames that are positioned rearwardly of the rear suspension cross member so that the kinetic energy of an impact load caused by a rear-end collision may be effectively absorbed by the deformation of the rear frames, thereby protecting the fuel tank. At least one of the rear frames is provided with a reinforcement and the rear suspension cross member is provided with at least one reinforcement so that the fuel tank may be protected against the impact load caused by the rear-end collision.
