摘要: Apparatus and method for forming spaced parallel grooves in the surface of newly laid concrete pavement while the concrete is still in plastic condition, characterized by bodily moving over the surface of the plastic concrete pavement a rotating roller having spaced parallel outwardly projecting ribs on its periphery and simultaneously pressing the rotating roller against the upper surface of the pavement to imbed said ribs to their full depth in the pavement and to engage the peripheral surface of the roller with the surface of the pavement.

摘要: Concrete pavement is provided with transverse grooves in its surface by a forming device having projecting parallel ribs that are pressed into contact with a concrete slab while in plastic or formable state and moved along the slab surface between opposite edges thereof to form parallel grooves in the surface of the slab. Retractable support forms are provided at opposite edges of the concrete slab to support the slab during the grooving operation. The forms have grooved upper surfaces aligned with the top surface of the slab, and the grooves in said surfaces conform with the ribs on the groove forming device, thereby allowing the device to be drawn beyond the edge of the slab. In the alternative, the forms may have a resilient upper surface to accommodate the ribs of the grooving device. The apparatus may include a mechanism for moving the support forms into proper position against the edges of the slab with each pass of the grooving device, as well as a mechanism for laying a strip of plastic material between the forms and the slab to prevent adherence therebetween.

摘要: Process and apparatus for restoring the driving surface of concrete highways comprising, in the first instance, use of a compactor equipped with sharp pointed teeth adapted upon rolling the compactor over the highway to puncture, fragment and disintegrate the surface layer of the concrete to a controlled thickness, thereby to remove the smooth or slick surface layer and restore the driving surface to a skid resistant textured character. Where highway wear has been excessive and/or following one or more of the restorative procedures above described, the process and apparatus comprise, in the second instance, use of slip form paving means and special paving techniques to resurface the highway with concrete, and in particular to continuously resurface in one pass one traffic lane and the contiguous shoulder without fixed forms or special shoring-up of the shoulder and without closing the other lane of the highway to regular traffic.

摘要: A wheeled toy vehicle or the like is provided, and includes an endless belt having indicia on both sides and roller means and surface guide means about which the belt is trained which are arranged so that the belt moves along a first surface with a first side exposed and along a second overlying surface with the second side exposed. In the illustrative embodiment, the overlying surface is shaped to be suggestive of a bridge, the first side of the belt is printed with water-suggestive indicia and the second side with representations of automobiles so that as the vehicle is pulled, the belt is driven and the impression of automobiles moving over a bridge under which water is flowing is created.
