Abstract: A valve stem seal utilizes a multi-piece construction to reduce the required manufactured tolerances and/or improve the stress handling capabilities. The valve stem seal can include a first member or can which can be assembled to a second member or spring seat. The can and/or spring seat can have a plurality of axially extending resilient fingers that are biased such that when assembled the fingers are bent against the bias due to the engagement between the can and the spring seat. The fingers on the spring seat allow the spring seat to bend or move relative to the can to accommodate the loading of a valve spring on the spring seat. The use of resilient fingers on the can and/or the spring seat reduces the manufacturing tolerances required for the valve stem seal.

Abstract: A vehicle transmission detent assembly is provided that includes a housing having a bore. A movable shift rail is supported by the housing and includes a recess at least partially aligned with the bore. A detent is at least partially arranged within the bore and engages the recess. A biasing member generates a force on the detent and urges the detent into engagement with the recess. An adjustment member threadingly received within a portion of the housing coacts with the biasing member. Upon manipulation of the adjustment member, the biasing member may be moved between a plurality of compressive states in which each of the states generates a different force on the detent. In this manner, the biasing spring may be compressed or uncompressed to provide a desired shift feel.

Abstract: The first gear/reverse gate switch of the present invention includes a detent switch including a contact pin and a contact switch. When a manual transmission is shifted to a gear not in the first gear/reverse gate, the contact pin of the detent switch engages a recessed portion on a detent mechanism such that the contact pin does not engage the contact switch. This indicates that the transmission is not in a gear in the first gear/reverse gate. When the manual transmission is shifted to a gear in the first gear/reverse gate, the interlock moves the detent, pushing the contact pin into engagement with the contact switch. This indicates that the transmission is in a gear in the first gear/reverse gate. The spring forces the detent into a “relaxed position” when not in the first gear or the reverse gate, breaking switch contact.

Abstract: A transmission having an integral lubrication (stem for delivering lubrication fluid to transmission components is provided. The lubrication system has a housing with a sump portion for holding the fluid. The lubrication system also includes a pump assembly with inlet and outlet chambers wherein the pump assembly moves the fluid from the inlet chamber to the outlet chamber. The housing has a collection system with an inlet passageway which interconnects the inlet chamber and the sump to provide fluid communication between them. The housing has a distribution system with a plurality of fluid distribution ports for delivering the fluid to the transmission components. The distribution system interconnects said distribution ports and said outlet chamber to provide fluid communication between them. First, second, and third passageways are integrally formed within various portions of the housing and deliver the fluid to bearing portions of the shafts and to the transmission gears.

Abstract: A manually controlled transmission includes a combined detent and interlock pin mechanism. The elongated interlock pin prevents surrounding shift fork extensions from being engaged when a desired shift fork extension is selected. A recess in the interlock pin allows engagement of a shift lever with a desired shift fork extension, and opposing sides of the interlock pin engage shift finger notches in the other shift fork extensions to prevent their movement. Detent springs attached to the manually controlled transmission substantially contact opposing ends of the sliding interlock pin to provide resistance as an end of the interlock pin substantially contacts the detent spring. Abstract: A vehicle transmission includes a plurality of shift shafts that cooperate with a common neutral switch to control when range shifts occur. Abstract: A transmission gear position sensing assembly includes a transmission housing with a bore having a shift shaft disposed therein. The shift shaft has an axis about which the shaft translates as the transmission is shifted between gear positions. The housing includes a hole with a switch assembly received in the hole transverse to the shift shaft axis. The shift shaft includes a profile aligned with the switch assembly. The profile has first, second, and third surfaces respectively spaced radially from the axis a first, second and third distance. The third surface is arranged between the first and second surfaces. The third distance is larger than the first and the second distances, and the third surface corresponds to a neutral gear position. The switch assembly includes a member biased to engagement with the profile by a spring. The switch assembly senses the gear precision by the corresponding location along the profile. Since the third surface, which corresponds to the neutral position, is raised from the other surfaces the shift effort is reduced as the vehicle operator shifts from the neutral position to one of the other gear positions. In this manner, the switch assembly and switch shaft configuration does not adversely effect the shift effort or shift feel.
