Abstract:
A bolt hold open assembly for a rotary magazine may include a bolt hold open lever movable to a locked position to inhibit forward motion of the bolt after firing the last round of ammunition. The bolt hold open lever may be moved to the locked position by a bolt hold open riser that is activated by a paddle movable with the rotor assembly of the rotary magazine.
Abstract:
A silencer can include an aligned baffle assembly with a series of baffles that are configured and/or adapted to be readily and substantially completely aligned to facilitate construction and assembly of the baffles in a desired rotational orientation so as to define a baffle core for the silencer, while also facilitating the quick and easy removal and disassembly of the baffle core from the silencer body for cleaning and/or maintenance thereof.
Abstract:
A gas exhaust system for a gas operated firearm may include a rear part connected to a gas block of a gas operating system, and a front part connected to the rear part. The rear part and front part have a flow path defined therealong that allows for venting of gases from the gas operating system. The rear part can have a regulating portion that regulates or control the amount of gases released from the gas operating system.
Abstract:
A barrel for a firearm including a chamber configured to receive a round of ammunition, and a shoulder at least partially extending from an exterior surface of the barrel. The barrel also has a gas vent feature formed in the exterior surface of the barrel to vent gases from the chamber. The gas vent feature may include at least one channel formed in the exterior surface of the barrel, and the at least one channel may have a predetermined depth and at least partially extend into the shoulder of the barrel.
Abstract:
A hand guard installation mechanism for securing a hand guard over the barrel of a firearm includes a tapered locking element that extends at least partially through the hand guard and interfaces with a surface of the barrel nut of the firearm. A fastener mates with the locking element, drawing the locking element at least farther into the hand guard and against the surface of the barrel nut. As the locking element is drawn against the barrel nut, the hand guard is tightened against the barrel nut such that the hand guard is secured in place against the receiver of the firearm.
Abstract:
A modular noise suppressor for a firearm may have rearward and forward sections, and a front end cap. The rearward section may contain one or more baffles and can be configured to connect to the barrel of the firearm. The forward section can contain one or more baffles and may be connected to the rearward section. The front end cap can be connected to the forward section and provide a force to the baffles of the forward section. The connection between the rearward and forward sections can be in axial tension at least in response to the front end cap providing the force to the baffles of the forward section such that any loosening of the connection between the rearward and forward sections can be at least partially restricted in response to the axial tension.
Abstract:
A three component bullet with a core retention feature and a method of forming the bullet is described. The bullet can include a jacket surrounding a core and a locking band disposed around a circumference of the jacket and the core. The locking band can be received in a circumferential depression formed in the jacket and the core such as by compressing the core to cause the core and the jacket to expand radially fore and aft of the locking band. The circumferential depression can include shoulders that are in compressive engagement with the locking band to help secure the locking band in place. The circumferential depression can include an inwardly-extending annular band of jacket material which embeds itself into the core material with the result that the core is locked inside the jacket.
Abstract:
A feed ramp system for feeding cartridges into the chamber of a firearm. The feed ramp system includes a feed ramp insert having a body with at least one attachment tab projecting therefrom. The feed ramp insert is received within a mating recess formed in the receiver and is removably coupled to the receiver to enable replacement of the feed ramp insert. The feed ramp insert includes a pair of proximal ramp surfaces that align with distal ramp surfaces form at a breech end of the firearm barrel, to define a pair of feed ramps for directing cartridges into the chamber.
Abstract:
A quick-detach barrel mounting system for removing and attaching a barrel to a receiver of a firearm. The quick-detach barrel mounting system can include a barrel nut having a body defining an axial bore. A proximal end of the barrel is received at least partially through the axial bore, and the barrel nut releasably engages a front end of the receiver. A hand guard can be mounted to the receiver and can define a cutout proximate the receiver. The hand guard at least partially encloses at least a portion of the barrel and the barrel nut, and the cutout is at least partially aligned with the barrel nut. At least a portion of the barrel nut is accessible via the cutout of the hand guard for at least partially disengaging and engaging the barrel nut with the receiver when the hand guard is mounted on the receiver.
