摘要： A high-power high-frequency device is disclosed having a thermionically actuated cold cathode secondary electron source and means for controlling electron beam current interacting with energy on either a reentrant or nonreentrant propagating structure. In an exemplary embodiment a grid-controlled primary electron source is coupled to an array of individual secondary electron emissive members biased at sequentially varying voltages. The primary and secondary electron emitters are spaced apart a distance of approximately one electron cycloid path. Such emitters are disposed within a section of a cold cathode source of substantial size. Impingement of electrons upon each successive secondary electron emitting surface results in an electron emission multiplication process heretofore unattainable with cold cathode structures actuated simply by pulses of the input RF energy to be amplified. Operation of the device may be rapidly terminated by biasing of the grid-controlled electrode having very low voltage requirements with the current in the electron beam and power output decaying to zero in a relatively few revolutions of the electron spoke around the cathode structure.

摘要： A heat transfer structure and system including a matrix of tubes and spheres bonded together to provide a conduit for a first fluid such as water and a plurality of interconnected paths for a second fluid such as hot flue gas. The paths are made up of the spaces between the spheres such that the walls of the paths are portions of spherical surfaces. The total path length is made less than twenty times the average radius of curvature of the spherical surfaces and the spacing between adjacent tube elements is of the same order of magnitude as the average length of the paths. A water heater or boiler so constructed may be made to transfer substantially all the heat in a flue gas to water in an average path length of one inch or less.

摘要： Circuitry for sampling a time varying waveform, converting each sample to a complex digital number representative of a predetermined parameter and then analyzing each one of such complex digital numbers in a plurality of stages serially to derive the Fourier transform of the original signal. The disclosed circuitry is adapted to analyzing N samples of a complex waveform, where N is an integral power of 2, but may be adapted to analyze any number of samples or any radix other than 2. Successive pairs of stages in the analyzing section of the circuitry are arranged to time-share a single digital multiplier, referred to as a productor, so as to reduce the complexity of the circuitry required to carry out the multiplication necessary in the transformation process.
